The possibly immortal Supernatural TV show on The CW is getting two new show-runners for the upcoming 12th season. Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb will take the reins in season 12. Current showrunner Jeremy Carver is leaving Supernatural, because The CW has ordered his new Frequency TV show to series. TV Line originally broke the story.
Singer has been with Supernatural, starring Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Mark Sheppard, from the beginning, as an executive producer, executive consultant, director, and occasional writer. Jim Beaver’s Bobby Singer character is named for him. It is Singer’s voice heard as the radio DJ, in season 10, episode 18, “Book of the Damned.”
Dabb boarded Supernatural in 2008 as a writer and story editor. Before this promotion to showrunner, he was working as a co-executive producer. His first “written by” credit on the series is for season four, episode six, “Yellow Fever,” with Daniel Loflin. “Yellow Fever” gave Supernatural fans this outtake (below).
Here is another gift that keeps on giving, from Supernatural, “Yellow Fever.”
Fan reaction to “Yellow Fever” prompted creator and then-showrunner Eric Kripke to write an open letter to the Supernatural fandom, explaining that he, the writing staff, and creative team did not consider Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester a [euphemism for male genitalia]. The letter has been broken into two parts. It is inserted into this Supernatural “Yellow Fever” recap. Kripke’s letter: part one. Kripke’s letter: part two.
Dabb has come a long way since he and Loflin wrote an episode where Sam (Padalecki) and Bobby had to road haul a ghost to defeat it and free Dean from the Buru-buru ghost sickness, he was infected with, seemingly because he was a…bully. Carry on, my wayward son.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Supernatural TV series? Are you optimistic about the 12th season in Singer and Dabb’s hands? Tell us.
BEEN WATCHING FROM THE BEGINNING. LOVE THE BOYS, THE CREATURES, THE STORIES &THE RELATIONSHIPS. DO NOT KILL OFF CASS & BRING BACK BOBBY..MOM IS NOT ENOUGH. LOVE THIS SHOW AND SO DOES MY ENTIRE FAMILY.. WORRIED EVERY YEAR WILL BE THE LAST..THIS SERIES SHOULD BE IMMORTAL..IT IS CREATIVE GENIUS…MOVE OVER JOSS WHEDON!
I’ve watched every series, reruns, at least 6+ times. It may be just me but the new series is disappointing. It seems like the entire production is being run by feminazis and metro-sexuals. Even the original; characters, Winchesters, Castielle, are not up to their usual great acting skills. For me, I may just go back to watching the reruns.
Me as a girl from the hood as y’all want to call it . I was attached o supernatural making more and more ppl watch it but why did u guys stop the show you guys don’t care about yo fans like what do we wanna see I’ve been with y’all since 2005
How do the brothers get money for food, gas, daily expenses? My wife says that every time they snuff a baddie, they roll him for cash/.Daddie leave them some sort of inheritence where they can access it via an atm ?
Your really not a fan then Cuhxz everyone knows how they get they money the steal ppl identify So please watch the show
Supernatural is the only show I have ever bought all season DVDs to. I love this show. I hope it runs for more years like the simpsons. You know your a fan when you watch other shows and say “Hey bae, they was on a episode of supernatural season, episode and the character”
Been a fan from the beginning.
Love the humor, irreverence and cynicism and, of course, The Brothers.
I was 18 when TV happened in Northern Ontario. I have never latched on to any TV series till Supernatural; my all time favourite, I think because of my very Catholic education, I get quite a charge out of the fractured theology. Let this show be immortal. Sorry the boys are getting older but that’s ok. If God has a sister, who is God’s Dad (and Mom)?
I am very glad to see that its back this season. My husband and I don’t miss an episode. We love the show.
New viewer here; my daughter turned me onto it; just trying to catch up with the first 11 seasons – I have on demand cable via Cablevision – is there a channel I can watch the previous seasons on??
Netflix.com has all 11 seasons
Sharon Behnke, I discovered SUPERNATURAL in the middle of the 5th season. I was able to start at the beginning of the show via DVD collections in our Public Library. May you be so lucky.
TNT plays the series every morning, Monday-Friday, 4 episodes a day, 9-1 CST. I think it’s in season 7 now. When it comes to an end, they’ll start from the beginning again.
I think you can watch the series on HULU or Netflix.
I’m pretty hardcore…just love it!
There are soooo many places this show could go. If the new giy drops tge ball here, I’m gonna get mad. Seen too mant shows dropped for “creative differences” or”no place left for the story to go” etc etc. if u get stuck, use us!! Any of us. Great minds loving Supernatural!!!.
I also would like to see some monster of the week …I personally like 1-5 and season 6 not so much and then 7 was better and then hit or miss from there..i wish they still used the kind of filming they did in the first 5 seasons..that type tinted kind of look..and bring bobby back..some of the most recent seasons seem like they wrote it in the morning and filmed that afternoon ..don’t get me wrong..i would rather watch a bad episodes than not at all!! but I would love to see some off the old format ,they could… Read more »
I have been a fan from day one. I’d love to see the show keep going.
Love the show cant wait until season 12.. But sam really needs to cut the hair..
Yes. YES! and more YES! Season 12 will be awesome with Singer and Dabb! You know what they say about dabbing a singer….?! Will need to get through this Summer of 2016 on Olympics, good A/C equipment, a happy little dog, and plenty of Jim Beam. Angst quotient is high for what the Winchesters are facing….
Rhutt-rohh… Seems like every time a “new guy” comes in and takes over a series after someone else has been at the helm from the start: the ship sinks. PRAYING that THAT will NOT be the case here. #SamAndDean #CWRocks these types of shows. #MayTheRatingsGodsBeWithYou
The series has already survived the change of showrunners after Eric Kripke left after season 5. This show exceeds expectations of all kinds. I don’t doubt that Robert and Andrew can pull this off. Robert has been with the show from the start, he is more than qualified to do the job.
