What’s This TV Show About?
A 1980s Russian spy drama airing on the FX cable channel, The Americans stars Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Holly Taylor, Keidrich Sellati, Noah Emmerich, Lev Gorn, Costa Ronin, and Brandon J. Dirden. This TV series revolves around the lives and secret work of Elizabeth (Russell) and Philip Jennings (Rhys) — two Soviet KGB officers posing as a married American couple in the Washington, DC suburbs. Since teen daughter Paige (Taylor) learned of their true identies, it has been even harder for these spies to maintain their cover. As a result, their family’s safety will grow even more tenuous in season five. With the Cold War raging, expect paranoia on both sides to reach new heights, making Philip and Elizabeth’s work increasingly vital – and even more perilous.
Season Five Ratings

Telly’s Take
Talk about a tummy tease! Although FX renewed The Americans through a sixth and final season, I must wait so long to dine upon it. I will still keep an eye on the ratings, in case this series really tanks, but honestly, I’m not expecting an impromptu snack. Because The Americans is a series loaded with spin-off potential, fans may want to track the numbers along with me. I loved the actors in this show! The story is wonderful and makes you think about how loyalty colors our thinking. The relationship between Elizabeth and Phillip is demonstrative of how a common dream and belief keeps a couple together despite the what is going on around them. I find myself in support of their relationship despite the fact what they are doing is violent and misdirected. I am so happy that you have renewed a season 6 and look forward to seeing how creative the writers can be with the finale. THANK YOU!
I love this show and it should be of particular interest to all Americans inasmuch as, while it is fiction, it is fiction based on solid (and, in this Series, very accurate portrayal) FACT. There were (and probably still are Russian cells – individuals, couples, families- which have infiltrated our Country on a fairly widespread basis with a very long-term commitment by the Soviets/Russians and run by the KGB (now FSB) security agency of the Rusky Government. Paige is the spinoff story. I predict they do not get caught. Paige goes to Yale, then the CIA as an undercover KGB agent.
I could really careless if the Americans was canceled. The 1st couple seasons were good but now it is a snoozefest. Don’t know hardly anyone who watches this boring show anymore. It sucks.
I like this show a great deal. It has excellent writers and an outstanding cast. However, as much as I like this show, I think it is time to bring the series to a close. The Ruskies need to be caught and executed. Paige needs to know that her parents, particularly her fanatical mother, killed a **** load of people in their quest for Russian domination over America.
