It looks like fans may have seen the final televised episode of The Cape last night. The NBC series has been struggling to get good ratings for some time and is one of the lowest-rated scripted serieson the network. Though it hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, The Cape is highly unlikely to be renewed for a second season.
A month ago, the network cut the first season from 13 to 10 episodes. When that happened, NBC also decided to delay the return of The Event by one week, presumably to allow the final two episodes of The Cape to air on February 28th. But that didn’t happen. Rather than pre-empt Chuck two weeks in a row (last night and next week), NBC just ran one episode of The Cape. Next week, The Event returns.
What about episode 10, the season (likely series) finale of The Cape? The network has apparently decided to release it online only. A small notice on the NBC site reads…
Flash: The creators of The Cape are prepping an exclusive episode just for online fans! Keep watching this site in the days ahead to see a full-length special episode.
There’s no word yet as to when the episode will be released but we’ll keep you posted.
What do you think? Does it matter to you that NBC won’t air the finale on television? Do you think it will be back for season two?
UPDATE: A network rep has confirmed that the finale will be released online only, sometime in March.

Yes, the show was a bit weak here and there, but it was entertaining. I thought TV was meant to be entertaining. I knew the show would be cancelled from the first episode, but I still watched it. I do not watch reality TV, I like to watch scripted shows with actors that can actually act. If I want reality I walk down the street. I guess I’ll have to watch the last episode online. Oh well.
What, they can’t find an hour to give the series a proper ending??? Not everybody watches shows via the computer. At least there’ll be an ending. Though a bit “campy” it was an enjoyable show with an above average cast. Hope the entire season will be out on DVD. I’ll add it to my collection right next to “Life on Mars”.
I watched the first couple of episodes. Like No Ordinary Family, the Cape is the exact same show we have seen already in Heroes and Smallville. They lose powers, then fight small crimes, they travel through time, oh enough already. Next season won’t have a superhero shows seems like. except maybe wonder woman
One more family-safe show gets the chop… I guess it didn’t have enough profanity, nudity or vulgarity. Disgusting. Anybody wanna buy my TV?
Come on NBC…at least The Cape was a show that was safe for families to watch, well as safe as can be expected today. I am so tired of all the Law & Orders…gee what other cities can you add??? And The reality shows….The Apprentice??? A bunch of celebrities acting like a the total idiots we all know they are. And Minute to Win it, so tired of hour after hour of that show. It seems you have already canceled The Cape and Chase which I throughly enjoyed. Seems to me I either need to find another station to watch… Read more »
I watched all of them have to say of all the shows i watched it was my least fav. I knew it was only a matter of time before it went away. kind of sad if there is no closure to the series. with all the scripted reality crap that they keep pushing I think they could have found a spot to air the last episode.
OK I get it the series was a bit incomplete in some ways, but i loved it, it could been better for sure, but come on guys it was a good concept, I agree with Karen on what she said am just sick of realty tv & law & order is a piece of ****, the cape is the only show am watchin on NBC,so if it’s off i guess it’s bay bay NBC
What a bunch of nasty people on the comment section here. If you people don’t like a show, then don’t watch it. Pretty simple. Go dissect something else and enjoy yourselves. The show was camp. It wasn’t meant to be taken as seriously as some of you apparently feel it should be taken. And we wonder why so many shows get cancelled, it’s because of fans out there that just can’t be pleased.
People DIDN’T like the show which is just one reason it was cancelled. The show wasn’t camp- that’s an excuse people use who can’t tell good writing from bad. Some of you are saying “give it a chance”- well, it GOT its chance and it failed. Many shows were cancelled in 2010/2011 that were bad, and deserved to be. Even so, the people on those shows were wondering how their shows got cancelled and yet this mess even got on the air. No one is going to convince the few who actually liked this show that it deserved to be… Read more »
NBC is where shows go to die before ever finding an audience ..
How come shows like Celebrity Apprentice, Dancing with the (former) Stars, Survivor, Biggest Losers, Amazing Race, the Bachelor etc. continue to grab ratings but a really good escapist show can’t stay on the air? I guess America is obsessed with “reality” shows. They are kind of dim if they actually believe there is any reality invovled. Save THE CAPE.
Why is this show being canceled. I really like The Cape. It is a Graphic Novel come to life. It probably needs a little mor sex and violence to get the attention of the public. I hate to see it go. I wish they would air the final episode on TV. I guess it was just too unconventional for prime time.
I liked the Cape and I don’t think it’s fair to show the final episodes online…put it back on TV as it seems Saturday nights are good nights for repeats and finale episodes of TV series. The ratings are not good at that time/evening but at least the few fans who do watch the shows should get a good finale night on TV than online.
I agree..a bunch of bs for not letting the people who liked it get to see it on tv…sucks
NBC – you are a huge FAIL. I get so sick of seeing the same garbage series all the time. Do we need Celebrity Apprentice, really? Do we need a half dozen Law & Orders to tell the same stories with different actors? Do we need to be inundated with reality shows where people don’t have to have any talent to become celebrities? Maybe we need more shows with sex and violence so we can send our children out of the room instead of having family time, which The Cape was PERFECT for. We only watch 3 shows on NBC… Read more »
Pure garbage. Glad to see it is gone. Last night’s episode with the Gorgeous Summer Glau acting disinterested in everything summed up my feelings for this show. Not to mention that when replacing a bad guy you can’t even put the scar on the correct side of the face? What a joke. So the cape can be used by almost anyone it seems… The “Cape” never had a back story filled in as far as I am concerned… What, do you add new powers or abilities every few episodes that never showed up before??? Good riddance. Fitting, as trash is… Read more »
Summer’s clearly trying to change her image and get her face out there. Look at the March issue of Esquire (see :

this is good news.
Awful, awful show. Writing is TERRIBLE! So many holes in the plot….I understand the concept is superhero blah blah but at least TRY to make it believable. I really wanted to like this show but when Vince stumbled upon a uninhabited sewer home…with a bed (of course), I quickly lost hope.
