NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

Wow super disappointed!! I was researching when season 2 was going to premiere to find out the show was cancelled. This is a very good show, I don’t get to watch too many series at all and with this show I made sure not miss one episode last season. NBC bring it back, change the date and time if needed!! Bummmmeeeded!!

I thought this was a very interesting series, and the actors were great. I, like others here, was eagerly awaiting the second season. Too bad. I agree it was a poor decision.
I thought it was a good show if the ratings were good from the beginning and the NBC execs’ saw the ratings going down, simply move the show to a different time and/or date! NBC this was a good TV series, please reconsider.
Please rethink your decision and bring Enemy Within back! Pretty PLEASE!!
Very disappointed The Enemy Within was cancelled. Enjoyed it as much as Blacklist.
Why did you cancel the show. It was my favorite show, it was just getting good. We discussed it every week at work.
That’s so sad I liked that show a lot. It was very interesting. I cant believe how they could cancel a show after one season. NBC needs to give these shows a chance.
NBC also cancelled the Village. That was a great heartwarming Show. I will miss both of these show.
I am so disappointed The Enemy Within was cancelled. I have been anxiously awaiting season 2 only to research and find there will not be one! This was one of the very few shows that I watch on NBC.
This is ridiculous!!! This is one of the best shows NBC has had in a while. Most of what is on now is junk. I was hooked from the beginning and wanting more after each episode. I was so looking forward to seeing again. Truly disappointed! Makes no sense to rank as it did and then decide not to bring it back. Who cares if it contended with The Voice. There are 10 other American Idol shows. None are like this

What a great show and what a disappointment not to continue. Each episode had me hooked and then the twists and turns.
All of that work developing and creating this series squandered because they couldn’t stick with it. A lot of shows that went on to be favorites wouldn’t have been given a chance if the execs that made this decision had been around then.
Stupid and foolish.
NBC needs to revisit this choice, or it seems the executive cleaning broom needs to come out and show why they are 3nd at BEST in the tv game!
