NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I’m so disappointed that this show was cancelled. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It deserved another season 10 fold!
Enemy Within and Village were 2 of my family’s favorite shows. Won’t watch anything on NBC now.
This was one of the best shows out there, sorry it was canceled!
I really enjoyed this show! Of course NBC canceled it; sounds just like them to put other shows in their place that are corny, with no plots, no real drama. Canadian based movies are becoming more thrilling!!!! Makes a person turn to Amazon and Netflix originals to see some shows/movies that you can truly relate to the depth of the characters.
Btw, all the insurance commercials like Allstate, Liberty Mutual and Geico are truly Annoying and PATHETIC!!!
Lastly- SHOWS like THE VIEW need to be Censored from tv!!!!!!
This was a great show the networks always do this they take good shows like the enemy within and cancel it. Just like fox did with 24
I’m very upset to discover the Enemy Within was cancelled. It wasn’t very well directed the storyline Jennifer Carpenter such an excellent actress I mean really superb she should have got an Emmy for a few of her scenes. But what about Morris? he seems to have a decent folliwing from his car race movies, you certainly got a resume that consists of movies we’ve all seen. Scandal I know what’s on ABC but that was asleep or for the first four seasons before it became a must-watch show… Wassup execs??

Such a shame this show was cancelled, such a good show I couldn’t wait to watch each week. The voice ? Ugh, please that should have been the first thing cancelled.
I’m disappointed that the show was canceled. I enjoyed it immensely, & was waiting to see how the story unraveled. I guess I’ll keep replaying Season 1…
I’m very disappointed that the Enemy Within was camcellrd!!! What were they thinking? This was the best show! I even signed up with Hulu do I could make sure I didn’t miss an episode. Please bring this show back!!!
What a shame. My friends and I ALL loved this show. What are the “execs” thinking! This is first drama I made sure not to miss in a long time. They blew it!

Very disappointed to discover that this show has been cancelled. This show was one of the few on NBC I kept up with. The writing was good and the actors are great. With most people watching TV via a streaming service, DVR’s, OTT and time shifting, deciding to cancel a show just because it did not do well following “The Voice” (lame show that NBC has not cancelled) is idiotic. NBC’s current executives need to be cancelled.
Agreed they should have change of time slots they do on ABC all the time. Shonda Rhimes put stuff wherever she wants to stop the show right in the middle of the series to launch another show I mean come on NBC
