NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

Just finshed watching season 1 & found out there’ll be no season 2. Cannot express how disappointed I am. One of the best suspense series I’ve seen in a long time. Can’t understand how this got low ratings, the twists & turns kept you mesmerized & loved each character the actors portrayed. Please reconsider letting this go.

I think Enemy within was brilliant please make more series I couldn’t get enough of Shepard and Keaton with all the twists and turns that were great kept you guessing all through it just brilliant and we all need new and exciting programmes on TV instead of all the same old repeats.
So disappointed that The Enemy Within is not returning to our screens. Really enjoyed ALL of the first series. Please bring it back!
Enemy within is a great show!! Why has been cancelled??? Gripping and a lot of suspense and great plot and cast too!! I just watched episode 13 and I was looking forward to find out who’s behind the threat and so disappointed to find out that it won’t be a season 2, come on!!! Please, bring it for another season!!! Ugh! Just googled to see the return date and found this out. Great show! Big mistake. It’s not too late to bring it back. It took Homeland well over a year to release their 8th and final season. Bring it back! So much better than all of the crappy reality shows!!

I am really disappointed you cancelled Enemy Within. It was a great show. At the very least you should have made a movie to finish the story.
