NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I really enjoyed watching The Enemy Within. Why are all the good and interesting shows being cancelled. Hope that another channel or streaming service picks it up.
NBC appears to continue to dumb down their selections. Dick Woolf keeps the network afloat in the drama section. The rest, with few exceptions like New AMSTERDAM (I’m surprised it made the cut), emphasize reality TV junk.
Please..Please don’t cancel The Village or Enemy Within. I looked forward to these shows every week
I want to follow all the families living in The Village and keep up with Shepard and Meeting on Enemy Within

NBC cancels all the shows I like. They did renew blindspot which is a great show as well but it’s getting a final season. NBC is making big mistakes!! Should’ve kept The Enemy Within. A great show!
Really loved Enemy within and the Village WTH! They just don’t give shows a chance can anymore!!
It is getting to the point that when a new show starts you better not get hooked on the show because no matter what you think you may like it they will cancel it and have really sucks getting tired of this is getting to the point to not even bother to watch any new programs because they will cancel it because of these damn ratings

Very upsetting that NBC canceled that show. Enemy was one of the best shows on TV and always kept me anxious to see the upcoming weeks episode. It seems the only thing that networks show anymore is singing shows or some crappy reality show of who is hooking up with who. Any show that has any substance they cancel. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
I sure would like to know who makes these decisions! It seems like plenty of people watch the show. There’s so many directions that show could go I don’t understand the reasoning behind it. They worry about demographics for young people. Will somebody please wake up and realize it’s the baby boomers they have the money to spend.
