NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I really enjoyed the site show The Enemy Within needs to continue with more seasons.
The Enemy Within had become my favorite show. It was very interesting and different from all the other crime dramas. Bad decision. One of the few shows I watch on NBC.
Please NBC pick the enemy within up for season two!! Love this show, so different from anything else out there.
I liked this program and was hoping for its renewal even though the writing wasn’t the best: I made a game of finding the plot holes in every episode.
I loved this show!! They always cancel the good ones and keep the cheesy ones. It is very disappointing!!
I can’t believe how idiotic the bigwigs of this show is to cancel it! It’s one of the most interesting shows that’s been on in a long time.

Enemy within was easily one the this seasons better dramas. Cast was great and script was intriguing. I’ll follow thea team show to a new network. Cable? Please
This series is one of the best new series of the season. . It was smart, complex and the one I was most excited to see. There are precious few of these type of shows on anymore. You really need to give these new shows a chance ! The problem is you will replace it with something similar but far inferior.
Disappointing. What are you thinking. I looked forward to this show every week. It was cleverly written and kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more. PLEASE RECONSIDER R2btand BRING BACK The Enemy Within.
This is a complete shame this show is amazing and the actors…Wow are all superb! NBC you got this wrong, wrong wrong!
