Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

We have to start boycotting these channels/networks foreal. Obviously there’s money to be made still with this show so the CW and BET are basically saying they don’t want our money or viewership. THEY DON’T MAKE SHOWS FOR US!!!! We should turn the TV’s off and start reading books by black authors like KWAN, Terri Woods and Zane. They’re not gonna invest in us SO WE GOTTA

I think that they should have a vote on who would prefer the show and who wouldn’t..now we all knw we will win..becuase the game is bomb..that show should make a movie becuase its good to watch I mean u can laugh and talk about it and not get tired I watch the reruns a lot..we need the game

bet have all the rejects realty shows like tiny& toya ,monica now chilli find love like peppa all this stars are broke and trying to be back with there wack out realty shows. like fantashia, jessica simpson,peppa,monica ,and chilli(tlc) give us the game
I LOVE THIS SHOW. THIS IS THE BEST SITCOM ON T V NOW. IT IS NEVER BORING AND KEEPS YOUR ATTENTION FROM ONE LINE TO THE NEXT. IT LEAVES YOU WANTING MORE AND YOU CAN’T SAY THAT ABOUT EVERY SHOW YOU WATCH. I AM ALL FOR BRING THE GAME BACK AGAIN ON A REGULAR.
Man i mess wit the game show i really think yall should do another season asap cause thats my show. I like the whole concept of the show it’s very interesting its dealing with alot of relationships thats goes on today, an it touch you how to deal with alot, an wont be blended by facts. Why is it when a good show comes on the air and popularity rises that they take it off the air? They saw how much fame and attention it has recieved by its viewers so why give all that up? Why was the show taken off anyways? I thank BET for keeping the show on their channel. Without seeing my favorite characters i dont know what I would do. They should really consider making new episodes and keep it on BET!!!!!!!
I say hurry up and put that show back on I dont care who picks it up just as long as it is back on and the cast remains the same and more actions keeps me on the edge. I mean that show is really really quite an entertainment. i actually put that show on my to do list. its a must that i don’t miss a show. loving it loving it and loving it. I give that show a 10 plus and more.

i love the game and i really hope that bet definetly does a fourth seaon i feel like i was left on the edge of my seat with derwin and melanie and considering the fan based already made i couldnt imagine the show would just dissolve like that SAVE THE GAME,SAVE THE GAME LOL

I love the show also. It is nice to be able to turn on the t.v. and see shows that relate to either us or people that we know that are in the same situations. I know a lot of people are waiting to see the outcome of a lot of situations before it went off the air, especially the outcome of Derwin and Melanie.
I hope that the television shows will bring it back on air, at least do another season and then wrap it up that way but don’t leave us hanging.
