A true-crime series, The Genetic Detective follows investigative genetic genealogist CeCe Moore and her work with DNA technology company Parabon NanoLabs.
In the series, Moore and her team revolutionize crime-solving by working with police departments and accessible crime scene DNA to help trace the path of a criminal suspect’s family tree, uncover their identity and bring them to justice.
For a decade, Moore, a self-trained genetic genealogist, has pioneered techniques utilizing a growing body of genetic data in conjunction with traditional genealogical records to help adoptees find their birth parents and to solve family mysteries.
Since 2018, Moore has used her unique research skills to transform the face of crime-solving, helping to identify more than 100 violent criminal suspects.
Episode #6 — The Hot Case
Moore gets an urgent email from a St. George, Utah, detective asking her to work her first-ever “hot” case – the rape of a 79-year-old woman that happened just three weeks prior. CeCe gets to work, knowing the rapist could easily strike again. During this episode, CeCe also sees the first jury trial conviction from a case on which she worked – the suspect identified in the murder of Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg from the series premiere. Interviews featured in the episode include victim and activist Carla Brooks, St. George Police Department’s Detective Josh Wilson and reporter Jessica Miller.

Keep the series. Bring it back in 2021! It was a great insight into how DNA interpretation and application can be used. Court/jury rulings will determine the ultimate weight DNA will achive in solving crime. However, there are two cautions worth mentioning. Be sure an identical twin does not exist before accusing an individual. Second, keep in mind a bone marrow transplant destroys a person’s birth DNA. Anyone getting this procedure should agree to a DNA test before the transplant and that DNA should be entered into a databank for possible reference.

I love this show,please renew it,I think what cee care is doing is great for law enforcement and some closure for families,she is amazing and cares so much about what she is doing

I love the show! CC is a breath of fresh air. It gives you a completely different aspect of how to solve a crime. Whether it’s a cold case or a hot case i think it’s a great tool to bring criminals to justice!
It’s not often that we see real cases being solved, especially cold cases, that aren’t movies acted out, but shows that show real people involved, with positive results. I hope you will continue with this show. I’m disappointed viewers outside of the US cannot watch episodes they have missed.
Love the show! It feels like we are witnesses to this cutting edge technology. I do enjoy the personal touches: scientists are human and have lives.
Well, I can think of several improvement for the show : cut out s lot if the repetitive personal junk, show more details how the process works, show specifics of how she works with the board. Go over the process of what happens when individuals donate their dNs, and do forth.

I saw the first episode and also DVR the same episode in case I fall asleep at the end. I am surprised that I enjoy the whole episode. It is a real winner. I still can’t wait to read that the show will renewal for the second season
