A true-crime series, The Genetic Detective follows investigative genetic genealogist CeCe Moore and her work with DNA technology company Parabon NanoLabs.
In the series, Moore and her team revolutionize crime-solving by working with police departments and accessible crime scene DNA to help trace the path of a criminal suspect’s family tree, uncover their identity and bring them to justice.
For a decade, Moore, a self-trained genetic genealogist, has pioneered techniques utilizing a growing body of genetic data in conjunction with traditional genealogical records to help adoptees find their birth parents and to solve family mysteries.
Since 2018, Moore has used her unique research skills to transform the face of crime-solving, helping to identify more than 100 violent criminal suspects.
Episode #6 — The Hot Case
Moore gets an urgent email from a St. George, Utah, detective asking her to work her first-ever “hot” case – the rape of a 79-year-old woman that happened just three weeks prior. CeCe gets to work, knowing the rapist could easily strike again. During this episode, CeCe also sees the first jury trial conviction from a case on which she worked – the suspect identified in the murder of Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg from the series premiere. Interviews featured in the episode include victim and activist Carla Brooks, St. George Police Department’s Detective Josh Wilson and reporter Jessica Miller.

It was great and satisfying to have those crimes solved. You probably didn’t get a lot of viewership because you didn’t promote it very well.
I stumbled across it half way through and had to keep looking for it, till I set it up to record so I wouldn’t miss anymore.
Love the show. Would really be disappointed if it gets cancelled. She could solve the Jon Benet case. It would be the biggest episode of any programs
My wife and I really enjoyed the Genetic Detective and would love to see it return.
