Is there still a future for The Kids Are Alright? Recently, star Mary McCormack spoke with The Los Angeles Times about her efforts to save the cancelled ABC TV show.
Set in the 1970s, the sitcom centers on the Clearys, an Irish-Catholic family living on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The cast includes Michael Cudlitz, Mary McCormack, Sam Straley, Caleb Foote, Sawyer Barth, Christopher Paul Richards, Jack Gore, Andy Walken, and Santino Barnard.
In the interview, McCormack says she thinks ABC cancelled The Kids Are Alright before its time:
It feels too short. It’s hard to get something really funny and nuanced and moving, and I thought our show was all those things. There’s a lot of stuff I don’t understand about how shows find new homes, but you do hear about it. And I guess because you hear about it, your fans think there’s hope. There are just so many networks now — networks I’ve never heard of. So I’m still holding out a little hope that someone will look at us and see we’re like the already housebroken cute shelter pet that needs someone to adopt them.”

I loved the show! It was entertaining & more like what I want to see instead of all of those ridiculous “reality” shows. How about cancelling some of those instead of the good ones like this. Bring back The Kids Are Alright!

I LOVED THIS SHOW! ❤ It was my favorite comedy and I’m still sickened over the fact it was cancelled. I was looking forward SO MUCH to seeing the family progress. PERFECT casting, hilarious crisp storyline and a takeback to my childhood. None of my friends had ever heard of the show.. HORRIFIC marketing. I’ve written many letters to the network. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!
Loved this show and was disappointed it was cancelled! There is a generation that can identify with this time period and want to share it with their children and grandchildren. Please bring it back!

Love the show it’s so unique and refreshing compared to all the repetitive garbage that’s thrown out there today. I’m not a fan of reality TV or dumb comedies full of laugh tracks to make it even more stupid. The kids are alright is a much needed throwback to kinder and simpler times. Please give it another try give it room to grow and it could easily be a huge hit. ABC’s loss can be another network’s gain.

Great show, funny, intelligent, well scripted and relatable to my generation, (born in 65). Was bummed it was cancelled! If it doesn’t relate to millennials or seniors, it gets cancelled! Canned shows like Law and Order stay on forever along with shows like Mom, which is complete pile of sh** stay on forever! It’s maddening, as soon as I see some crap sitcom, I’m like that’ll probably last 10 years, but anything related to 70”s childhood, cancelled?? Yet complete garbage stays on year after year! I loved this show. I hope they bring it back. It was a favorite show we watched each week. Not only was it funny but so true about life in that time period.
The Kids are Alright was (is) one of my favorite new shows. I was always quoting lines from it to coworkers encouraging them to watch.
