It seems not even magic couldn’t help bring the ratings up. The CW has cancelled The Secret Circle after one season of 22 episodes.
A supernatural series, The Secret Circle follows teenager Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) who, after moving to Chance Harbor, discovers that she is a witch and part of a young secret coven. The show also stars Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Shelly Hennig, Louis Hunter, Ashley Crow, and Natasha Henstridge.
When the season began, it looked like The CW had found the perfect match for their big hit, The Vampire Diaries. The premiere drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.05 million viewers. These days, those are excellent numbers for the smallest network.

In week two, the ratings dropped 31% but were still strong by CW standards. Unfortunately, over the course of the season, they have tumbled downward. They’ve gone as low as 0.5 rating with just 1.14 million viewers. Other CW shows were performing better and they didn’t have the advantage of having such a strong lead-in.
On our CW Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demographic numbers of shows on the network, The Secret Circle has a “B+” grade. That grade however is heavily reliant on the early season numbers and the show hasn’t been pulling those in months.
If The CW had renewed Secret Circle for a second season, the ratings would likely have been lower when it returned in the fall — lower still without a Vampire Diaries lead-in.
The CW has different standards for success than other networks and derives income from other sources beyond broadcast viewing. They also have just 10 hours of primetime space available. It just didn’t make sense to bring Secret Circle back for another season.
The series finale aired on last Thursday night, May 10th, so there won’t be any further resolution for the ongoing storylines.

Im very upset it has been cancelled! I watched this and the vampire diaries since the very beginning and thought both were great! I feel a lot will agree too! Please change your minds, such a great show
II am very upset that this show was cancelled. I love Vampire diaries and I think it was just as good as tthat show. I hope that this network will change their minds and start it back up.

I would just like to say that the Secret Circle was a favorite of mine and I never missed an episode. I’m not happy that it is not returning for another season. Not only that the finale left you with alot of questions that won’t be answered.
I think that most people who were watching The Secret Circle had read the books. Unlike the Vampire Diaries, very few elements of the book stayed with The Secret Circle show. I was very disappointed in it, I think if had they stayed a bit more true to the original story, it would have had much better ratings. The Vampire Diaries realized that, they stray from the original story to give us more episodes, but they constantly give us reminders of the books. I’m sad to see the secret circle go, but I was expecting it.
Wouldn’t it have been going into it’s third season? Also the plot was just getting so good and now they decide to cancel it. Doesn’t make any sense to me.

I am sad to hear that the CW will not renew The Secret Circle for another season, I really enjoyed the show. I think a large part of their failure to maintain a steady rating for the new show is due to their “mid-season” finale break. The Vampire Diaries already has a loyal following which was established from a book series. I think it was hard for the new show to maintain interest when it takes such a long break in the middle of the season. I am pissed. I couldn’t watch the Secret Circle when it was on so I would record it on my DVR and watch it when I had time. I love this show and am very upset that it was cancelled. It should have been renewed. There are far worse shows on and give me a break, the Complex the CW’s next show looks like a poor mans Melrose Place, it looks pathetic
I am super outraged! I don’t understand how the network could choose to continue airing Gossip Girl over The Secret Circle?! I think it’s just about time for Gossip Girl to step aside. I wish that there were something that could be done to bring back the show.
that’s just take off all the good shows and leave all the dumb reality shows SERIOUSLY!!! the secret circle was one of the few shows i watched. if they are going to take shows off it should be all of the reality shows cause those shows will make your IQ drop
The CW is RIDICULOUS! They always bring in such great shows then want to cancel every damn show after its first season. A lot of the times people don’t have time to watch it live so they dvr it which I understand why it doesn’t help ratings but that why I think this network needs to be cut off bc I’m tired of the same crap! I LOVED TSC & I hope all their upcoming new shows fail!!!!!!!!! Bc they deserve it!!!! #SaveTSC
Are you serious and what’s wrong with witches!!!…why would such a excellent show be cancelled after one season…there is so much crap on tv as it is….how many crime shows can you have….or comedies….and be so desperate that you would have come on tv to find love….you should really rethink cancelling the Secret Circle. Thursday nights won’t be the same anymore…thanks for NOT cancelling the Vampire Diaries!!!!!!!!!
I really liked the secret circle. Watched every episode! Bummed out the show is cancelled. Hope Vampire Diaries will still keep going. Maybe CW should air the secret circle on another night, it may do better. The story line and characters are interesting. I looked forward to watching every Thursday, and if I couldn’t watch that night I was sure to set the PVR.
