Well, there’s one singing competition that won’t be back next season. The Sing-Off has been cancelled after three seasons on the NBC.
Hosted by Nick Lachey, this TV series seeks to find the most-talented a capella singing group in America. Judges have included Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, Nicole Scherzinger, and Sara Bareilles. The judges decide who advances to the finale and the final winners are determined by viewer votes. The champs take home a Sony recording contract and $200,000.
The Sing-Off began in December 2009 as a short-run series with just four episodes. It did reasonably well — averaging a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.9 million viewers — so the peacock network brought it back for season two.
It returned in December 2010, expanded to five episodes, and the ratings rose 26% — to an average of a 2.9 in the demo with 8.6 million viewers.

NBC decided to take another chance and give The Sing-Off a two-hour timeslot on the fall schedule with 11 episodes. That gamble didn’t pay off and the ratings were much lower. By the end of the season, The Sing-Off averaged a 1.5 in the demo with 4.56 million.
On our NBC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of TV shows on the network, The Sing-Off has an “C-” grade. The network has now cancelled the show.
NBC could have brought it back for another limited run, perhaps over the summer or in December but were likely hesitant to flood their schedule with yet another singing/talent competition. America’s Got Talent has been very successful for them over the summer months and NBC plans to run two cycles of The Voice next season. There just wasn’t a place on the schedule for The Sing-Off any longer.

I loved the Sing Off and so did my husband. We are sad to see that it isn’t coming back. Please give the Sing off another chance!!!!!!
It was the best singing show on TV by far. The singing groups had real musical talent. It’s such a shame that the show was cancelled. I was really looking forward to it.
Say it isn’t true! Please bring back the sing off!! ‘re-vamp it if you must, but please find it a home!
Our family was actually more excited about The Sing Off than American Idol anymore. The talent and format was WAY more entertaining and required less of a time commitment from fans, making it more realistic that we could watch all the episodes and follow it through to the finish. Some of the performances were AWESOME! Where will we ever be able to watch this kind of competition again on such a national stage??? Boo NBC!
I was a great fan of the Sing Off and am very saddened that it will not continue. I attended a show last night at the Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro, Vermont that included the Aires among others. Fantastic! Please reconsider
My family loved the sing off. We watched and recorded it every season! It was an awesome show! Its sad to see that it will not return.
This is just wrong. I don’t even watch those other singing shows as this one is real. I wait patiently each year for it to start. SHAME ON YOU NBC for canceling this awesome show!
Having performed in choir in high school and college, the talent shown on that show was amazing! To move and sing like that, while using their own voices to replicate instruments and sound effects was incredible! I am very upset that out of all the other stupid talent shows I don’t watch, the Peacock took this one away. Shame Peacock, shame!
I absolutely loved it~! I cannot believe it has been canceled. The ratings had to be wrong! I have been waiting for it and I just found out it was canceled. I really missed it this past fall/Christmas season. I recorded it with all the other shows I watch. It was in a class of it’s own….it gave these talented folks a real competition and exposure. I lived watching the sing off. These people had real talent, not like the other singing shows.
Please consider having it on again.
It really was the best singing show on tv with actual talent…I’m a little sad it won’t be back on, absolutely amazing what those people could do with there voices! All I can can do is talk let alone make my voice sound like a trumpet, guitar, or drums all on key. Wtf really cancelled the wrong show!!!!!
It was really the ONLY ..”singing” show that featured the voices and talents of real singers(and judges) Thanks NBC for being ruled by the great showbiz nubers instead of supporting real talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVED the Sing-Off! It was such a joyful show. It wasn’t mean spirited like so many other competitions. It had great heart and I’m terribly disappointed that it won’t return. I’m sure that there are millions like me and my family who aren’t counted in these ratings that will miss this show very much.
I think this was absolutely by far the BEST singing show on TV. I’m very disappointed that is in not coming back this year!!
