After just two episodes have aired, AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for a second season. Not only did the series have respectable retention week-to-week but there was also significant growth in the key 18-49 demographic.
It seems like AMC knew they had a hit on their hands and was making plans for a second season before the first episode even aired. During the premiere episode, AMC encouraged viewers to visit AMCDead.com to try to win a chance to get a walk-on role as a zombie in a future episode. Since all six episodes of season one have already been completed, they must have been at least fairly certain there would be a second season.
Season one of The Walking Dead concludes on December 6th. Here’s the press release about season two…

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion and Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) serve as Executive Producers.
“The Walking Dead” tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The comic goes on to explore the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies who take a toll on the survivors, and sometimes the interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the zombies that roam the country. Over time, the characters are changed by the constant exposure to death and some grow willing to do anything to survive.
Shot on location in Atlanta, “The Walking Dead” is led by a cast that includes Lincoln (“Teachers,” Love Actually) as Rick Grimes, Jon Bernthal (“The Pacific,” The Ghost Writer) as Shane Walsh, Sarah Wayne Callies (“Prison Break”) as Lori Grimes, Laurie Holden (“The Shield,” Stephen King’s The Mist) as Andrea, Jeffrey DeMunn (Stephen King’s The Mist, The Green Mile) as Dale, Steven Yeun (“The Big Bang Theory”) as Glen, Emma Bell (The Bedford Diaries) as Amy and Chandler Riggs (Get Low) as Carl Grimes.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that the TV show will be back for a second season?
the best zombie pcture ever made by far. the most realistic and blievable scenes and storyline. they dont just sit there and wait 2 b eaten. its not one of those “o no i’ve fallen and i can’t get up” they actually try 2 gat away. i have a cllection of over 3000 dvds and counting and have old and new zombie movies and this for me topd them all and yes even “the night of the living dead” even though for the time it was the best until now. am a fan and always will b. looking forward 2… Read more »
I absolutely am a fan of the show and am so happy it has been renewed! ZOMBIES RULE
This show is outstanding. It is highly entertaining, extremely well written and directed. It is perfection in storytelling. TV in general has become silly, boring and pathetic with reality shows. I want a story.
I do not like Zombie shows, usually, but I LOVE THIS ONE! Husband and I are hooked! Looking foward to more episodes. Really like the scene with the old folks and the others helping them!
Someone should start a petition to get at least 20 episodes of the waling dead fore season 2 and following seasons…
My daughter and I both LOVE The Walking Dead. She is a Zombie Fanatic, and writes short stories about zombies. She also own author both Zombie Survival Guides that sell at Hastings. I would not be suprised if she becomes a writer of horror novels. She has plenty of time to figure that out, as she is only 18 as of May. I am not sure how much I like the police officer that lied to his partner’s wife telling her her husband was dead.. Then again I can’t say much about her morals. She was having sex in the… Read more »

i havent been able to watch the show yet. I have the first two recorded on my dvr and plan to watch them when I get some time. Looked interesting when I saw the previews on the net a few months ago. Now that it is assured of a second season i know I definately want to get caught up on the show.
Or I could wait and give myself a zombie day marathon by letting the other episodes air and then catching up on them..lol… either way good to see AMC with another strong showing.
Jeremy, you should have watched the last half of the pilot it was breathtaking as well as the entire second episode. Great things take time and it pays to be patient. I’m looking forward to watching the third episode next Sunday. I hope you give the series another chance.
Trust me I see your point. This has happened to me many times before. I’m not feeling too bad right now considering the show has already been renewed. But many times people stopped watching and the show was canceled. But the show has been renewed already? I don’t think you need my help honestly.
Its no “Mad Men” but so far it has kept my interest
Well they didn’t put too much faith into the show, if the first season was just gonna be 6 shows. That’s it??? I watched about half of the pilot and was bored out of my F**KING MIND!!! Very disappointing considering I’m a big zombie fan.
I am very upset that this show is not available in HD, except on Dish. I have both Verizon FIOS TV and DirecTV, but neither has Walking Dead in hidef. The show looks positively horrible, virtually unwatchable, on my 65″ LCD in standard def.
Evidently, the only way I can get WD in HD is via Google TV via Amazon on Demand, but I will have to pay by the episode. This is most unfair, as I pay around $300/mo for my current services.
Switch to dish network
I love it.
