Elena is out of a job, thanks to Freeform. The cable channel has cancelled The Watchful Eye so it won’t be returning for a second season. The first season’s 10 episodes finished airing in March
A mystery thriller series, The Watchful Eye TV show stars Mariel Molino, Warren Christie, Kelly Bishop, Amy Acker, Jon Ecker, Lex Lumpkin, Henry Joseph Samiri, and Aliyah Royale. The story follows Elena Santos (Molino), a bright and savvy young woman hired as the live-in nanny to a wealthy widower and his young son. When Elena moves into The Greybourne, a landmark Manhattan apartment building, she quickly learns about the complex politics among its wealthy inhabitants and a history riddled with mystery and tragedy. Luckily, Elena is more than equipped to handle anything that comes her way on her own terms. Elena works for Matthew (Christie), a self-made and handsome architect dealing with grief and confusion over his wife’s death and its impact on his intelligent and withdrawn son, Jasper (Samiri). Tory (Acker) is Matthew’s sister-in-law who instantly dislikes the fresh-faced and eager young nanny.
Airing on Monday nights early this year, the first season of The Watchful Eye averaged a 0.04 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 117,000 viewers. The series launched to a viewership of 180,000, but by the end of the season, several episodes drew less than 80,000 viewers.
The cable channel has also cancelled Single Drunk Female after two seasons.
What do you think? Have you enjoyed The Watchful Eye TV series? Are you disappointed this Freeform show wasn’t renewed for a second season? Were you respecting it to be cancelled?
Not surprised! Freeform always drops the ball on their best shows (Shadowhunters, anyone?!) We were all waiting with anticipation every week to see what happened next through streaming services. This marketing strategy needs updating with the advancement of Hulu, etc.
I loved The Watchful Eye. So sorry that
it’s been dropped. I was so looking forward to season 2
Really like this show. Very disappointed. At least end with a two-hour finale. Why does it say it drew in less than 80,000 viewers? HOW DO YOU KNOW??? You haven’t counted me or a lot of others? That % of viewer thing is always used as an excuse. So many great shows are being cancelled. Why can’t you just pause until this writer’s strike is over? It’s like being in hell with all the crap that’s going on in the world. These shows give us a little relief from our daily reality. It’s nice to get away from it all… Read more »
END WITH A 2 or 3 HOUR MOVIE to give the fans closer on what happens to all the characters HOW CAN YOU JUST END IT LIKE THAT WITH A CLIFFHANGER LIKE THAT
JUST END WITH A OR HOUR
VERY disappointed.
This is sad. One of the greatest mystery show I have watched 🙁
I’m very sad about The Watchful Eye ! I was looking forward to see how this mystery ended. ALL shows that get cancelled that have a continuing story should be allowed a 2 hour movie (or something similar) to tie up loose ends.
Just discovered it and am very upset and disappointed it’s not renewing. I just paid to watch the last three episodes today after binging the first 7 in a couple days. Bring it back! Reconsider.
Very disappointed that you canceled the show. How can you not have a ending for season 1 cliffhanger. It should have it come back as a 2 hour movie.
Whyyy? I thought it was a great show!!
Was our favorite show ! Anticipated 2nd season. Very disappointed ☹️
Very unfortunate. Thoroughly enjoyed show. Intriguing mystery. Great characters.
HuLU bring it back.. It’s great and will gets lots of new viewers now that it’ s on your network
That’s too bad. We really liked the show, especially Amy Acker. On another network it might have been more successful.
I agree with you, Sherry. This was a really good show. The sets were beautiful. I looked forward to seeing it every week. Amy Acker is always good in every show she has been in. The mystery and creepiness of the building was done very well. What a shame this excellent show will have no closure now. Another dumb decision by a network.
