One of the earliest casualties of the 2009-10 season, Three Rivers was pulled after eight episodes. There’s now word that the TV show’s coming back but fans shouldn’t get too excited.
The CBS medical drama, which stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard, got off to a slow start in the ratings when it debuted back in October. Viewership dropped as the weeks went on and it very quickly looked like a candidate for early cancellation.
CBS pulled Three Rivers in December and expressed no plans to order any additional episodes. Then, in January, the network officially cancelled the show.
Members of the cast have moved on to other projects and O’Loughlin will be starring in the new Hawaii Five-0 series next fall. Perhaps CBS wants to make sure that viewers don’t forget about O’Loughlin because they’ve now scheduled the final episodes of Three Rivers.
The five unaired episodes of Three Rivers will start to run on Saturday, June 5th, at 8pm. The series finale is scheduled to air on July 3rd.
Interestingly, The CW recently announced plans to run O’Loughlin’s last CBS series, Moonlight, on Thursday nights throughout the summer. They start Thursday, June 3rd.
It’s certainly an odd set of circumstances. The actor just may be the first person to have two cancelled shows running concurrently on different networks.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that the final episodes of Three Rivers will see the light of day?
I’m so happy to see the final Three Rivers episodes that were created, but never shown. We were very angry when it was cancelled because I think it was one of the best medical dramas ever put on television. Unfortunately it won’t be continuing past the final 5 episodes, but at least we get to see those. I am hoping Hawaii Five-O will be a good remake. We just love everything Alex O’Loughlin does. He is a fantastic actor and needs to be showcased more!
I liked Moonlight. I like Three Rivers. I know neither show will come back as O’Loughlin has moved on to Hawaii Five-O. Let’s hope that H5O lasts a lot longer than the first two did!
SO GLAD TO SEE THREE RIVERS RETURN—HOPING ITS HERE TO STAY!!!
Love it, love it, love it! Please, everybody keep watching, and tell your family and friends.
If the ratings are high enough, CBS may have second thoughts. If you or they cannot watch, at least have the tv on at that time so they get counted in the ratings. Thanks.
That Blows!!!!! I Love this show! It totally gives you a reason to want to make your life worth even more by possibly saving a life by organ donation! One of the best shows ever! I am sad it is going!
Love seeing Three Rivers is back! The concept of the show about organ donation is one that more people need to know about and understand the impact of. Powerful and real!
I think a BIG, BIG mistake was mad cancelling Three Rivers. When I saw it on the Saturday line-up I thought that the network had changed their mind. Obviously not!!
Oh well, at least I can enjoy the last few episodes. It’s unfortunate that all of the good shows are being cancelled to make room for reality shows. What a waste!!!
I am SO glad CBS put the last few episodes of Three Rivers back on.
I loved the show and the shots of Pittsburgh were incredible.
I will definitely buy this series if it makes it to DVD.
I just wish CBS would have shown a bit more faith in the show.
Very glad to see it back, Kate is great, hope to see more of her in upcoming episodes and other shows.
I had only just discovered this show, loved it, and then it was no more! I’m glad to see a few more episodes, but I wish they would bring it back for good!
I was surprised that Three Rivers was cancelled, I really thought this show would be
successful, was sorry to see CBS drop Three Rivers it was a New Medical show very interesting. We really love everything Alex O’Loughlin does, he is a great Actor.
Best medical tv drama ever. And I never watch episodic medical dramas. I never, ever saw one ER or Grey’s Anatomy. I’m in tears during every episode of this show. What a shame this show didn’t catch on,
I was so upset when they pulled Three Rivers! It is such a good show and offered a healthy perspective on life and how truly short it is. I’m so excited to see the final 5.
I just watched the first of five remaining episodes and I cryed like a baby. This was a good show, wish CBS had given it more time to catch on.
Thrilled to see Three Rivers back!!! Hope it can somehow be renewed. It was such a breathe of fresh air…a new take on medical drama!!
I agree with deb cavanaugh that it should be renewed. I like it because I am an organ doner and it kinda gives me a glimpse of what will happen after I am gone. It is a very soothing show for me.
