Training Day TV show star, Bill Paxton, passed away on February 25th, at just 61 years of age, due to complications following surgery. Since his new CBS cop drama is only four episodes into its 13 episode first season, fans have asked how the loss of this accomplished actor will affect the first season, and if CBS will cancel or renew Training Day for season two.
Picking up years after the movie, Training Day follows Detective Frank Rourke (Paxton). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. LAPD brass assigns heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee. Kyle is to spy on Frank and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Will Training Day Season One Continue? Will this TV Show Be Cancelled or Renewed for a Season Two on CBS?
The first season of Training Day is currently averaging a 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.165 million viewers. Compared to other CBS TV shows, the cop drama currently ranks 22nd out of the 25 scripted Tiffany Network TV shows we’re tracking. Even if we hadn’t lost the talented Mr. Paxton far too soon, CBS was unlikely to renew Training Day for season two.
There is one bright spot for fans. Deadline reports that season one production wrapped in December, which means all 13 episodes from the show’s first-season have already been shot. There are still nine new Training Day episodes, starring Paxton, to come on CBS.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Training Day TV show? Will you keep watching it, without Paxton? Should CBS cancel or renew Training Day for season two? Let us know, below.
I really enjoy the TV series. It reminds me of several other series that I liked, that have long since been terminated years ago. Bill was a strong character actor and only another strong character actor can do the series justice. I would like to see someone become creative and find a way to keep the series going.
I will keep watching. Please don’t cancel.
I will keep watching it- I thought it was a great show. Just a thought- how about letting Kyle take over as the “good cop going bad” after Frank’s untimely death (car crash, assassinated by an old nemesis, etc.)?
Bruce Willis can do the part
yes he would be great i agree.
Same here, One of my very favorite of the new shows. I would love to see it continue, but Bill Paxton’s character was great. It will take some hard writing and a really STRONG character like Det. Frank to keep it going, but please do!
I have enjoyed watching this new series. It is so sad that we have lost this great actor Bill Paxton. I look forward to seeing the remaining episodes. I don’t think that the show can go forward because Paxton was such a dominant force and his presence instrumental in the show’s success.
Please renew the show. I love it. I think it will pick up viewers.
Really like the show. The writing is very good & they’ve had some excellent story lines. I was actually pleasantly surprised. Yes I would watch it without Bill Paxton if they cast the right actor. I really like Paxton but for me the writing has really carried this show and if it goes I will miss it. Hope if cancelled these writers go give a shot in the arm to some if these other drab cop shows.

I am a fan of the TV show Training Day. Do not Cancel. It will e harder to watch but I feel it is a good action packed show that various members of my family cannot wait to watch weekly.
Please tweak the last episode or something so we can have a series finale that doesn’t leave us hanging!!!
Will the creator, producer, showrunner say something convincing about having a long term direction for the show? I’ve been watching reruns of POI and realizing the foreshadowing of the future seasons in character and plot theme development. Training Day hints at such a plan to drive the series, but viewers will need real assurances that the plan transcends Paxton’s character, like POI could handle “Carter” being killed so she could move to Empire. Training Day is not setup to be a clean politically correct procedural like NCIS or soap like Blue Bloods, so it needs some hidden theme of virtue… Read more »
Please do the honer to Bill Paxton and show the last work he has done. He was a great actor and his fans like me will enjoy seeing his work!!!! I don’t know about season two, I sill enjoy Alias Smith and Jones. but after Peter Duele died the show was not the same. Maybe be Bill’s son could be worked in to the the mix. Thank you Jon Achziger
This is a very good show and I would love to see it continue.
I loved the show and will continue to watch.
Excellent casting, writing and themes. Great show -reality! It was so tragic to hear of Bill Paxton’s demise. Please consider a comparable actor: the guy who was in Tyrant, or his brother; or Steve Baldwin; or the actor who was temporarily on the Chicago PD investigative team; or, one of the actors in Star Trek movie. Great show!
The show really delivered Do not stop this show You have a winner here, Find the right replacement character
