Training Day TV show star, Bill Paxton, passed away on February 25th, at just 61 years of age, due to complications following surgery. Since his new CBS cop drama is only four episodes into its 13 episode first season, fans have asked how the loss of this accomplished actor will affect the first season, and if CBS will cancel or renew Training Day for season two.
Picking up years after the movie, Training Day follows Detective Frank Rourke (Paxton). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. LAPD brass assigns heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee. Kyle is to spy on Frank and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Will Training Day Season One Continue? Will this TV Show Be Cancelled or Renewed for a Season Two on CBS?
The first season of Training Day is currently averaging a 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.165 million viewers. Compared to other CBS TV shows, the cop drama currently ranks 22nd out of the 25 scripted Tiffany Network TV shows we’re tracking. Even if we hadn’t lost the talented Mr. Paxton far too soon, CBS was unlikely to renew Training Day for season two.
There is one bright spot for fans. Deadline reports that season one production wrapped in December, which means all 13 episodes from the show’s first-season have already been shot. There are still nine new Training Day episodes, starring Paxton, to come on CBS.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Training Day TV show? Will you keep watching it, without Paxton? Should CBS cancel or renew Training Day for season two? Let us know, below.
I am completely devastated about the loss of an amazing actor. Bill Paxton had so much class, and he will be truly missed. My heart goes out to his family. As far as watching Training Day without Mr. Paxton is a hard act to follow. Good luck with that. You cannot replace him, but you can try to see if it would work. I would try.
Thank you
Paxton was the consummate professional and I have no doubt he would’ve wanted the network to finish out the airing of the complete Season. I hope CBS will be sensitive to him, his family and his fellow cast a crew members by allowing the Season to run it’s course to an unfortunate final ending.
REST IN PEACE, PAXTON- you are still one of my favs, for sure!
I am above the 49 demographic and I enjoy the show. Yes, Jim Caviezel would be a good idea. Shall miss Bill Paxton.
Love the show. So sad Bill died. He played his part very well. Enjoy the supporting characters too. Would definitely watch season 2 but they have big boots to fill.
I think Training Day is a great show & will continue to watch all 13 shows. I think that the show will continue to be great as long as an actor with the same grit can be added to the program. My condolences to the Paxon family, he will be
missed by everyone! Gone to soon.
I love the show. I think Bill Campbell (Enough) or Jim Caviezel would.be gpod alternates. My condolences for the Paxon family.
Please don’t cancel, I really enjoy this show.
I really enjoyed watching Training Day. There are a lot of remake shows on television now, including Taken, Emerald City, and 24 Legacy. I think Training Day had great potential, just like Crash (the tv show on Starz), which was cancelled after Dennis Hopper passed away. Rest In Peace Bill Paxton.
Love the show and would watch it with another actor. Perhaps Mark Walberg? We will miss Bill Paxton terribly. They should continue in honor of him.
Awsome program with Paxton’s personality infused in this character. I will watch if someone new can add chemistry to the character training the newbie my condolences to the Paxton family all cast members and cbs for the loss of this great actor . 🙁
Don’t let them cancel Training Day. My vote bring in Micheal Biehn or Jeff Fahey as a different Maverick cop. Much love Bill Paxton.
Please keep season 1 going. We were just getting into the show. We want season 2. Other actors could carry it. Have Bills character retire. Loved Bill in everything he did. Great loss.
Call Bill Pullman. I always mixed up the Bills anyways.
There is no “Training Day” without Frank Rourke. He’s essential to the entire plot of the show. I can’t think of anyone who could play the role as well as Bill Paxton. I hate it when they cancel shows mid-season, but I’d cancel this one before more people get attached to the show.
I agree.
I am attached this is so sad RIP Bill Paxton
Very good show. I think it could still work.with the right actor to take over for Bill Paxton.
