WARNING: THIS IS US SPOILERS AHEAD!
What’s going to happen to William on This Is Us? Recently, star Ron Cephas Jones spoke with The Wrap about his future on the NBC TV series.
Jones plays William, a musician and recovering drug addict, on the ensemble drama. The cast also includes Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Chris Sullivan.
On a recent episode of This Is Us, William passed away due to stage-four stomach cancer. Jones told The Wrap it was a very emotional episode:
It killed me too. I was shocked, moved, I was in tears, I was in joy, every emotion that you had and the fans had, I had.”
However, despite his character’s passing, Jones will return for season two of the NBC series:
It’s been determined [William will return], but with a big question mark again. We will see him again, but we don’t know when, how, or where, or in what capacity. But I do know he’s going to be there next season. Like most fans, I pick and choose what I think they might write. Maybe the Jesse relationship, because he was in Chciago, so I’m sure he’ll come back and Randall will have to fill him in on what happened in Memphis. Maybe we’ll get a chance to see how that relationship becomes [what it is]. Maybe through dreams Randall has. Maybe through the postcard that he left for Beth that we’ll see in the next episode. There are so many little pockets of places where you could put his story.”
What do you think? Do you watch This Is Us? Are you glad William will be back?
It seems that something is wrong with Sophie. I hope not but if so Kevin may have some hard choices to make.
So glad to hear we will have William back. He was such a calming presence for Randall & a blessing to this whole family. He had so many qualities to be proud of being a recovered drug user, a comfortable gay man, a good musician & someone at peace with his own life and place in the world. I hope their life “after William” will reveal more wonderful places for the characters to go.
You do know this is a serious spoiler for the show and you presented it for all, right? A huge picture of the actor who has cancer and the writing “An Unexpected Character Will Return for Season Two”
I haven’t seen yet the series finale but you leave me no choice but to assume it’s him. Try not to write spoilers with pictures like that next time. Not everybody watching this on live television, streaming netflix VOD and DVR.
It’s really not a spoiler if you think about it, especially knowing that Jack is gone. Would that be considered a huge spoiler as well? We most likely knew that William would be back, he just won’t be alive. Also, there is no series finale…next week will be a season finale, and how can you assume it will be him when he already passed away a couple of episodes ago?!
I did not know he already died. I haven’t seen the last few episodes. So…. now I know he is dead AND he will be back for season 2 for flashbacks or something like that. Thank you for the spoilers.
I think that if you don’t watch the episode on the air date, you kind of leave yourself open to reading/seeing spoilers. It’s great to be able to record shows and watch them at a later date, but is the world supposed to not comment on those shows “just in case” someone didn’t watch the show when it aired? If you don’t watch the show on the original air date, you take your chances that you might see/hear something about it. 🙂
That is a given and I understand it but It doesn’t mean that news sites such as this one should post news about forthcoming seasons (i.e – spoilers) on the title of the article with pictures regarding the exact spoiler. Especially if the season of said TV show haven’t been aired yet.
Spoilers obviously suck. I’m one of those who waits a few episodes before getting caught up too. The key is to keep away from sites like these. Or anything that could potentially spoil it for you.
So happy that Ron Cephas Jones (William) will be back. Cried my eyes out during the episode where he died and then this week’s when they had the service for him. Loved the surprise ending when Kevin (Justin) got the phone call from Ron Howard saying he had a script he wanted to send him. Hope his character has more activity this season. He’s such a great actor and the total package.
Yes, I’m totally committed to “This is Us”. Love the wonderful ensemble of actors/actresses and all their characters. It took me a little time to follow the ‘flashback’ storylines but I’m there now and don’t miss an episode. I was one of the Y&R fans who was mourning Justin Hartley’s exit from that soap (my favorite) so it went without saying that I followed him to his new series. So glad I did. Looking forward to Season 2 and beyond.
He is such a great character I was surprised they killed him off. At least he will be back in flashbacks.
Yes, love the show and love the William character. He was so believable and quite lovable. Glad he will be back, and he will be no different than Milo’s character, who is also on the other side. ….
Good news that he will return in some manor. It was sad to see him missing in the last episodes
He wasn’t missing in the last episode, he was seen on the couch talking to Jack and getting the postcard for Beth…it might have been a dream and a flashback, but he was still in it
Great news, a decent character returns. He was and will be pivotal to keeping this family together. Bravo !!
So happy to hear he’ll be back. I loved William!
