Though there was talk that the Wayward Pines TV series could return for a second season, FOX seems to have killed that idea. The network has revealed that next week’s installment will be the last one — the series finale.
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series is currently FOX’s second-best performer of the summer, beating out shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Bullseye, Boom!, Are You Smarter Tahn a 5th Grader?, and animated Golan the Insatiable. Wayward Pines is averaging a 1.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.79 million viewers.
Based on the season’s performance, FOX execs were considering renewing the show for another year — most likely with a different cast and characters in the same mixed-up world. However, last night’s promo clearly notes that next week’s episode marks the end of the show. Take a look:
For what it’s worth, back in January executive producer M. Night Shyamalan was open to a second season but was cautiously optimistic. He said, “If the opportunity is there. We won’t do it unless it’s organically and creatively correct.”
Executive producer and showrunner Chad Hodge recently told TVLine, “The promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”
What do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines TV show? Would you have watched a second season?
7/24 update: Though FOX advertised the last episode as the “series finale”, talks of a second season continue.

I’m really sad to reading this article it’s a shame that wayward pines has been cancelled even if the book story has been telling in 10 episode season 2 is still possible hell no they’re decided to cancel it completely. this serie was so good, i’m sad and breathless it’s hard to accept but season 1 will live forever in my heart. Damn Fox i hate you.
I loved the show and to my opinion the story isn’t told complety, episode 10 has an open end. I would love to see a second season. Such a shame that fox is not planning it. Hope they change their mind.
Omg u cannot cancel season 2 me and my mates loved every minute of season 1 the emotions I went through watching the finale was unreal
I think the finale should mark the last season for this show. it was well acted with interesting dialogue, but the premise of the story is so bleak that whether the residents escape or live out their lives in Wayward Pines, the outcome is without hope for a future.
Yes! Bring it back. Much much better than so many other shows that go on for season after season. There would be so many ways to develop this intriguing and original storyline – with the original characters. Just my opinion, but I’m standing by it.
The past week I learned that two of my favourite shows has been cancelled.
I will never again start watching a series from FOX again untill I see it reaching it’s 4th season. And then I will download it.
You guys are wasting every body’s time.
if you decide to air a series stick with it.
I am not a guinea pig!!!!!
🙁 devastated that there is no season 2. Finally a decent tv program and they only do 1 season…not fair. Will have to find something else to look forward to on a Thursday. Agree with previous comment though and will be very dubious about starting a new show with fox when they cut them so easily. 🙁
If Chad Hodge regards episode 10 as a satisfactory ending I for one would beg to differ.
Wayward pines had a perfect ending, no need for season 2. Great series
its a shame FOX cancels so much shows after a season…. it got really interesting now and i would have watched a second season.. maybe i should watching FOX not that often anymore…
Hello Folks;
It’s not cancelled and they have posted no new info here. It was a miniseries like Roots and there was a follow up to Roots. There Could be another Wayward Pines Miniseries or a new series that Starts at Season 1 or this could be it. This is another case of someone putting a misleading title on an article to get readers to believe there is new information. If tonight’s ratings rock It Fox will follow up… Even Heroes is coming back(the pain of season three..oh the pain).
IMHO
I was very pleased to watch Wayward Pines and be sure that I would watch more. I was disappointed to see that FOX is cancelling the show, I believe that it will lose many viewers if it continues cancelling these kind of shows. The only reason I watch FOX is to see the Walking Dead , Tyrant , The Strain and Falling Skys and by the way Wayward Pines. Please redeem yourselfs by bringing back the show.
Hell, yeah!!! I would watch a second season, even though the main character is most likely dead. Although there are ways to revive him. Anything is possible! (after the Walking Dead, just let your imagination …fly away!) And one more message for FOX: don’t you dare to cancel Tyrant 3. If you do then you will lose a great deal of viewers worldwide. No more monkey business gentlemen of FOX. Give us a break!!!
I have just watched the last episode of wayward pines and immediately checked to see when season 2 would be screened. To my disappointment there might not be a season 2 ( major bummer ). Such a great show, why wouldn’t there be? Fox should reconsider, as I am getting a bit bored of the usual shows and all of their reruns !!
It’s a shame there will not be a season two of Wayward Pines. I would most definitely have watched. This is the very reason I so rarely get involved in shows on FOX. The have a habit of canceling great shows! Lesson learned!!! Unless 24 returns for another season, I won’t be getting invested in another FOX show. There is no point!
think I’m gonna have to start doing the same. Why should we invest our time into their shows if they won’t invest in them
I would’ve written exactly what you already wrote.
It’s been my favorite TV Station since I was 10 years old.
But FOX just ain’t doing the business as they should.
They’re primary objective should be entertaining the millions of viewers out there.
When a season ends, FOX should give us the opportunity to feel the anxiety for a new season.
But instead of doing that, they cancel the new season, losing viewers everyday.
I know it shouldn’t be like this, but….
What can we do?
