Though there was talk that the Wayward Pines TV series could return for a second season, FOX seems to have killed that idea. The network has revealed that next week’s installment will be the last one — the series finale.
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series is currently FOX’s second-best performer of the summer, beating out shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Bullseye, Boom!, Are You Smarter Tahn a 5th Grader?, and animated Golan the Insatiable. Wayward Pines is averaging a 1.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.79 million viewers.
Based on the season’s performance, FOX execs were considering renewing the show for another year — most likely with a different cast and characters in the same mixed-up world. However, last night’s promo clearly notes that next week’s episode marks the end of the show. Take a look:
For what it’s worth, back in January executive producer M. Night Shyamalan was open to a second season but was cautiously optimistic. He said, “If the opportunity is there. We won’t do it unless it’s organically and creatively correct.”
Executive producer and showrunner Chad Hodge recently told TVLine, “The promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”

Loved this show! The characters were great and the show was leaving me counting down the days till the next episode. I really hope there will be a Season 2, there’s not too many good shows left anymore.
WTF?!? Another reason to hate Fox. Great show, great cast. 2nd highest rated show of the summer and they cancel it? By all means, let’s have more of the Kardashians, or The Batchlorette, or, OMG, Duck Dynasty.

Typical FOX.. Shows like Firefly, Arrested Development, Family Guy (sure they brought it back but only because DVD sales were insane), Brisco County Jr., Futurama, Wonderfalls, Terra Nova… The list goes on. These guys wouldn’t know a good show if it’s script came with an Emmy attached to it. But when they do, they decide to run it in the worst time slot they can find and claim it was too expensive and just didn’t deliver the numbers.. Well.. duh! This was the last straw. They need to make another season wayward pines was really cool I loved how it was a futuristic show and I really want a second season because I can’t stand that the first generation is in charge and there are no adults. I want Amy or Ben to rebel and kill that group of delinquents at the police station and get the adults out of suspension. SO PLEASE BRING WAYWARD PINES BACK!!!!!!
My favourite new show this season. Fans want another season, m night, the novel writer as well, yet it is ending? Doesn’t make any sense. You know the network is going to put a lot of money into so many terrible shows next season hoping they will be this good.
Keep this show alive! Matt Damon needs to be kept alive too! Such a great concept, it’s a real shame the show was cancelled.
Season 2 or Riot!!!
Bring back Wayward Pines! One of the best shows on TV. Finally something different, exciting and suspenseful. We looked forward to Thursday nights just for this show. We need a season 2…!!!!!

My brother told about this show, I said I’ll try to remember, I didn’t! This past weekend I seen it advertised on fxm. I dvr it. I just watched the series finale, it was very well crafted show, on your edge of your seat episodes. It was a good as lost! I’m bummed they are not bringing it back! I think it would be a great feature film. They actors were awesome!
