Though there was talk that the Wayward Pines TV series could return for a second season, FOX seems to have killed that idea. The network has revealed that next week’s installment will be the last one — the series finale.
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series is currently FOX’s second-best performer of the summer, beating out shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Bullseye, Boom!, Are You Smarter Tahn a 5th Grader?, and animated Golan the Insatiable. Wayward Pines is averaging a 1.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.79 million viewers.
Based on the season’s performance, FOX execs were considering renewing the show for another year — most likely with a different cast and characters in the same mixed-up world. However, last night’s promo clearly notes that next week’s episode marks the end of the show. Take a look:
For what it’s worth, back in January executive producer M. Night Shyamalan was open to a second season but was cautiously optimistic. He said, “If the opportunity is there. We won’t do it unless it’s organically and creatively correct.”
Executive producer and showrunner Chad Hodge recently told TVLine, “The promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”
What do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines TV show? Would you have watched a second season?
7/24 update: Though FOX advertised the last episode as the “series finale”, talks of a second season continue.

yes, i Would Watch a 2 season. I thought the show was great. Enjoyed every minute of it.
I, like most of the public, are *REALLY* tired of getting into new shows (often with good to great ratings-like #2 Wayward pines), onlybto have them cancelled for no apparent reason. Fox execs: have you lost your mibds? Cancelling your SEXCOND HIGHEST RATED SHOW? What is WRONG with you people???
This makes absolutely NO sense! It’s Fox’s “2nd highest performer of the summer”, but they’re cancelling it? How logical is that? I love the show and was almost positive there was going to be a second season. I’m disappointed, to say the least. However, there are a couple of things I don’t understand. Maybe someone can enlighten me. I thought the whole story about them being the only remaining survivors of the human race wasn’t true. They clearly showed David Pilcher meeting with Ethan Burke’s boss in the Secret Service in one of the first episodes and he was telling… Read more »
Danny, think what you fail to understand is that these people who were all alive in the 21 C, were then unknowingly taken and put into stasis until they were needed in the future. To them it felt like the same day or next day etc, but really hundreds of years had passed. The message Kate received was made in the past and then was played to her when they “woke ” her up, so to speak, so she’d have no idea any time passed. Did you see what they did to David’s sister when they locked her in that… Read more »

Love this show!! Please bring it back. Get rid of something else!!!
Of course it’s being cancelled…its a great show! WTF! Why are the nerworks doing this? It makes me particularly timid about watching any new tv shows. Why bother? Its only going to be cancelled.
Too bad! This was an interesting and entertaining suspenseful show! Yes, I would have watched a second season!
YES!! We would watch a second series of Wayward Pines!!
YES!! We would watch a second season of Wayward Pines!!!
My family and I agree with all comments regarding keeping the show on the air. There should be a definate season 2 with a way to bring back Ethan. Keep the show going for at least one more season!
Please just let the show end as the last episode – second seasons are never as good as the fist!
Im a scifi buff. Loved the s
