Though there was talk that the Wayward Pines TV series could return for a second season, FOX seems to have killed that idea. The network has revealed that next week’s installment will be the last one — the series finale.
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series is currently FOX’s second-best performer of the summer, beating out shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Bullseye, Boom!, Are You Smarter Tahn a 5th Grader?, and animated Golan the Insatiable. Wayward Pines is averaging a 1.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.79 million viewers.
Based on the season’s performance, FOX execs were considering renewing the show for another year — most likely with a different cast and characters in the same mixed-up world. However, last night’s promo clearly notes that next week’s episode marks the end of the show. Take a look:
For what it’s worth, back in January executive producer M. Night Shyamalan was open to a second season but was cautiously optimistic. He said, “If the opportunity is there. We won’t do it unless it’s organically and creatively correct.”
Executive producer and showrunner Chad Hodge recently told TVLine, “The promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”
What do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines TV show? Would you have watched a second season?
7/24 update: Though FOX advertised the last episode as the “series finale”, talks of a second season continue.
PLEASE make a second season. It’s a great show and I miss it already
I would have definitely watched season 2!! Great show!!!
Very well done series. Please make it a Season 2!!!
I agree, make a season 2
PLEASE air another season(s) of Wayward Pines! This is FINALLY what we were waiting for – something different on TV. Get rid of some of the “same old stuff” and KEEP THIS PROGRAM!!
Ten great episodes that go from beginning to end leave a son in need of finishing recovery as well as redemption. He needs to prove to the town that he is not like his father. He needs to fit in again and make Wayward Pines one. And this show is up there with the Simpsons, my two favorite shows on Fox.
I love the TV show and I hope they do have a second season.
Please bring on Wayward Pines season 2! It’s one of the best shows on TV. Scrap some of the other shows and give us another season.
There has to be a season! I agree it could end based on the 10th episode, but why should it? Wayward pines and the whispers were the number one shows off the summer! It’s nice to see shows with some real spook to them and actually makes you use your brain! Please being WP back for season 2!
You should have a season 2!!! They keep all the shows i don’t like and get ride of the shows I like its making me very angry
Yes! The show is great! Keep it going….
its unbeliveable. this show is amazing. we demand season 2!!!!!
Yes, please have a second season!!! Please keep it going!!
This is one of the best shows on T.V, hands down! My wife and I watch this show religiously, and we’re really looking forward to a 2nd season… Hopefully FOX can work something out for the people!
This was better than all the other stupid shows on. Glee. Empire. Jane the virgin. Quit with the mindless shows and give the people at least a morsel of substance. Something that makes them think a little. SEASON 2 of WP where it left off. Even with no more drunk Matt Dillion or fugly sucking on his lower lip son “ben”…kid looks like a cretin from Britton’s got talent.
But yes keep wayward pines. New casting director though.
No! I enjoyed this show, and want to watch a season 2. Why don’t they cancel ” Two broke girls,” or the big bang theory. Honestly what’s so damn funny.
