Though there was talk that the Wayward Pines TV series could return for a second season, FOX seems to have killed that idea. The network has revealed that next week’s installment will be the last one — the series finale.
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series is currently FOX’s second-best performer of the summer, beating out shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Bullseye, Boom!, Are You Smarter Tahn a 5th Grader?, and animated Golan the Insatiable. Wayward Pines is averaging a 1.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.79 million viewers.
Based on the season’s performance, FOX execs were considering renewing the show for another year — most likely with a different cast and characters in the same mixed-up world. However, last night’s promo clearly notes that next week’s episode marks the end of the show. Take a look:
For what it’s worth, back in January executive producer M. Night Shyamalan was open to a second season but was cautiously optimistic. He said, “If the opportunity is there. We won’t do it unless it’s organically and creatively correct.”
Executive producer and showrunner Chad Hodge recently told TVLine, “The promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”
What do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines TV show? Would you have watched a second season?
7/24 update: Though FOX advertised the last episode as the “series finale”, talks of a second season continue.
FIX can your programming suck any more? You had a winner and threw it away!!!
Hell yeah we want a second season
You know it’s a shame when a show is good and have a good story line it’s always cancelled what do these producers be thinking .
I was also looking forward to season 2. This show was so different and brought a lot of things to light. Please reconsider and bring it back.
I think this show should be renewed. It was one of the best shows this season. Well written and suspenseful.
i love this show please bring it back
Please bring the show back. Smart show, great cast, perfect premise, and the direction of the last show gave a son the perfect opportunity to rise to power just like his father did.
Why do you always stop the shows that are good and interesting and start a new one that is a so so show and than you leave huge gap between restarts of shows like 3-4 months are you kidding me what a joke, put wayward pines back on
Bring it back !! I been waiting all fall for this show..just found out it was cancelled..why it’s the best how in summer 2015 all my family watched it.. we see it on hulu can’t always watch it on air..Bring season 2 I’ll do anything to see it back….

I haven’t watched many shows religiously but I did with Wayward Pines. Love Matt Dillon and the characters. I was pulled in even more at the last episode. Here’s to hoping those execs have a change of heart! So disappointed to hear this!
I was looking forward to a season 2!!!!!!
Yes I Would Like For Season Two To Come Back On PLEASE.
I enjoyed it and several of my co workers liked it. There would always be conversation after each episode. Bring it back make a season two.
