Though there was talk that the Wayward Pines TV series could return for a second season, FOX seems to have killed that idea. The network has revealed that next week’s installment will be the last one — the series finale.
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series is currently FOX’s second-best performer of the summer, beating out shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Bullseye, Boom!, Are You Smarter Tahn a 5th Grader?, and animated Golan the Insatiable. Wayward Pines is averaging a 1.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.79 million viewers.
Based on the season’s performance, FOX execs were considering renewing the show for another year — most likely with a different cast and characters in the same mixed-up world. However, last night’s promo clearly notes that next week’s episode marks the end of the show. Take a look:
For what it’s worth, back in January executive producer M. Night Shyamalan was open to a second season but was cautiously optimistic. He said, “If the opportunity is there. We won’t do it unless it’s organically and creatively correct.”
Executive producer and showrunner Chad Hodge recently told TVLine, “The promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”
What do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines TV show? Would you have watched a second season?
7/24 update: Though FOX advertised the last episode as the “series finale”, talks of a second season continue.
I was looking forward to season 2. I’m very disappointed that now there won’t be a season 2 to continue the story even if the main characters may have changed. I liked the show so much that I bought the books and have been reading them….☹️
Bring back wayward pines!!!! Seriously no more mind numbing csi dips**t type shows. Fox grow a pair. Look at amazon viewings for it..
Bring back wayward
Loved wayward pines!! Glad I caught the 1st season on catchup. Easily enjoyed this as much as the first season of ‘the walking dead’
Would be great to have a 2nd season!!!
Please please!! We need more of wayward pines!
Please….. Make A second season!! Ik is so great. It’s goed it all!
Finally a tv series both my husband and I look forward to watching together and the it’s cancelled after the first season!!?? Come on Fox! Or whomever made this terrible decision. Give it back! Make some more! Let the viewers decide! We want to see more wayward pines
And yet again another network cancels a show I was so hooked on. Because of this canceling show trend of shows I like, over the past decade, it makes me very gun shy in ever getting involved with new shows, investing my time and passion. Wayward Pines was different than the million procedural cop or hospital shows they have on TV. It was unique and many really did take a liking to it but now have been kicked in the teeth. Thanks once again for yanking a great show *sarcasm implied*
Please renew the show. I am hooked on Wayward Pines and now you are canceling the show. I almost hate to watch tv anymore because everytime I get hooked on a show, it is cancel. I want more of Wayward Pines. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! Good TV is almost hard to fine anymore. Open your hearts up and let the Wayward Pines in..lol
Absolutely fantastic. I’d definitely watch a second series
Renew the show keep the show please
What is it with Fox they make a great shows like Firefly , Almost Human and now Wayward Pines and after there first season and killing the competition these retards in fox cancel the shows….there is something very wrong with these idiots.
NOOOOOOOO!!!!! I really enjoyed this TV series! I travel a lot for work and was hooked ok the first couple of episodes. I ended up ‘binge watching’ the season and loved the new concept of the show. I went so far as to buy the books to see the difference between the show and the writers vision…only to find out ther will be no further episodes. BOO Fox!!! At the very least, Blake Crouch made a few more dollars and gained a fan of his writing. Too bad, a new and fresh idea flushed away by the ‘hum drum’ execs… Read more »
