NBC has given the go-ahead for a third season of its Who Do You Think You Are? reality series. The show follows celebrities as they travel far and wide to trace their ancestral roots. Celebrities that have taken part thus far include Sarah Jessica Parker, Emmitt Smith, Matthew Broderick, Brooke Shields, Susan Sarandon, Spike Lee, Vanessa L. Williams, Tim McGraw, Rosie O’Donnell, and Kim Cattrall. Lisa Kudrow is the executive producer and has also appeared on camera, traveling as far as Poland.
Who Do You Think You Are? started off season one with a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.85 million viewers. By the end of the season, the ratings had fallen to a 1.2 in the demo and 5.21 million. Still, NBC opted to bring it back for another season.
Three episodes of season two have aired so far and have averaged a 1.3 rating and 6.6 million viewers. Those aren’t great numbers but apparently good enough for a Friday night timeslot. There are five more episodes to go for season two which is expected to wrap in early April.
What do you think? Do you like the Who Do You Think You Are? series? Glad to see it renewed?

I have always been a history buff (majored in it in college) and began reserarch 30 years ago.I love the quality and the content of the show. I would love to see non celebrities tracing their history as well.
I think the demographics for 50+ viewers should be taken into account; after all, we spend more and know good quality when we see it. Way to go Lisa for bringing my passion to the rest of the country.
Just started watching this and really enjoy it (and miss it!). I didn’t realize what it was about when it started… since I’m not into all the crazy reality-type shows I opted to stay away. So, just by chance I turned it on one night and it wasn’t anything as expected. Maybe a different marketing campaign would help bring in additional viewers… This show makes history more relative (smile) … it’s more than just reading about it in a book, it tells you why people possibly did what they did because of what was happening at that time in history.… Read more »
Love this program–very interesting. Can’t wait for season 3. Quit paying attention to 18-49 year olds and let us baby boomers tell you the good shows. They haven’t lived long enough to know good material!
I am fascinated with this show. I have done a lot of genealogy on my family and this show is so exciting what they find. People who haven’t done family genealogy don’t know what they are missing. Please keep it on. Even 3 seasons is not enough. I tell everyone about this show and if they can find it, they always tell me how much they enjoyed it.
Please! Bring back more of “Who Do You Think You Are?” It is absolutely one of the BEST shows on television. NBC really knocked it out of the park by adding this show to their network. I brag about this show to many people, so hopefully it get watched more, and there will be more episodes to interest, entertain, and enlighten us with.
This is such a refreshing series compared with the overblown, rebaked reality shows that are busting out on every channel. I will be a loyal viewer as long as the TV gods keep putting it out. Bring on season 3!
I am obsessed with this show ive seen every episode and every season so far. I am eager to watch a third and hope there are many more seasons to come! Im dying on my friday nights right now not having my show to watch since season 2 is over. I almost dont know what to do with myself now! Hurry up season three this fan cannot wait!
I love this show! Never missed an episode and so happy to hear about Season 3, I hope it keeps going. I agree with another comments, season is way too short. My teenage son will even watch with me and seems to enjoy as well. Makes hims ask questions. Such an amazing journey, sometimes I am at the edge of my seat. It is a “feel good” show.
I love watching this show! I rarely get to be home on Friday evenings to watch it, but have watched every episode online at least once. I enjoy watching ‘roadblocks’ in the family tree get cleared and just seeing history laid out. Have a few roadblocks of my own, I get excited when anyone gets to go further back into their family history and discover more about their own roots. Sometimes it gives me hope that there are answers to my roadblocks.
Anxiously awaiting season 3! With or without celebrities.
I love, love, love the Who Do You Think You Are? program. I tell everybody about it and really look forward to another season. I, too, wish it went to the end of May like other series do.
Our family is glued to the set for Who Do You Think You Are. I wish there were more episodes to watch. Since I have been researching our family tree and have hit a roadblock with my Grandmother Beissel, on my mother’s side of the family. I would love to have the resources (money) to make the trips to all the areas to find out more of our family history. This show is just wonderful. You find out good and bad and isn’t that what makes everyone so unique and we all do have a story to tell, good or… Read more »
I just discovered WDYTYA mid-season 2, and am already missing it on Friday nights! My friends and I have enjoyed sharing this program. I’m eager to see more!
I am researching my family; and I just love this show. I watched Season 1 and 2; and I can hardly wait for Season 3. Maybe in the future, the producers will add in a few ordinary Americans that are not famous people. Thanks!!!! HAPPY EASTER!!!!
I absolutely love it and can’t wait for Season 3. I just discovered it mid-season 2.
Good family enjoyment! Our family still makes it out to our favorite restraunts and home in time to see Who Do You Think You Are. My only disappointment: Not a long season.
