NBC has given the go-ahead for a third season of its Who Do You Think You Are? reality series. The show follows celebrities as they travel far and wide to trace their ancestral roots. Celebrities that have taken part thus far include Sarah Jessica Parker, Emmitt Smith, Matthew Broderick, Brooke Shields, Susan Sarandon, Spike Lee, Vanessa L. Williams, Tim McGraw, Rosie O’Donnell, and Kim Cattrall. Lisa Kudrow is the executive producer and has also appeared on camera, traveling as far as Poland.
Who Do You Think You Are? started off season one with a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.85 million viewers. By the end of the season, the ratings had fallen to a 1.2 in the demo and 5.21 million. Still, NBC opted to bring it back for another season.
Three episodes of season two have aired so far and have averaged a 1.3 rating and 6.6 million viewers. Those aren’t great numbers but apparently good enough for a Friday night timeslot. There are five more episodes to go for season two which is expected to wrap in early April.
What do you think? Do you like the Who Do You Think You Are? series? Glad to see it renewed?

I love this show! Keep the episodes coming! It’s the only show I really watch!
Waiting patiently ……… for one of the best show’s on NBC.
Fantastic show! I even watch the reruns just in case I missed anything the first time. Thanks NBC!
Thanks so much for this show! Intelligent, entertaining TV! This show has inspired me to research my family history. Please keep this show on the air, it’s the best thing on television!
Just love this show. It’s the highlite of my week…please, please, please make it a very long running show — I just can’t get enough of it!
I love love love “Who Do You Think You Are!” Two years ago I began to research the Family Trees of my husband and myself through Ancestry.com and other sources. I have uncovered several mysteries, stories, and interesting ancestors who lived at different times in history. Some of the same ancestors of Sarah Jessica Parker and Tim McGraw are also my husband’s and my ancestors. This is what I know to be true … discovering your ancestors makes an impact on who you think you are.
Your “show”, though about already famous individuals, continues to give me strength, determination, and “chutzpah” to continue in my own journey. I have been researching the life of my late husband Robert Goldman, born and raised in Shanghai 1940-1958. Much of my findings have not come from computer generated sites but from walking, talking, asking, and reading. I have discovered myself in this journey of another . I have watched the episodes with more than normal enthusiasm for I greatly believe our past is our future. I met Lisa Kudrow at a Jewish Genealogical Society meeting at the Skirball last… Read more »
I very rarely watch TV anymore…..but Who Do You Think You Are is an exception. As far as I’m concerned this show is the best thing that’s happened to TV in years!
I absolutely love the show “Who Do You Think You Are”! I am a fan of geneaology and history and can’t wait for season 3!
I have been working on my own family history for nearly 20 years now and every day I find more and more interesting pieces to fit into the puzzle. This show has been a great boost for genealogists out there. It’s not just for old ladies anymore! I’ve watched as many of the BBC, CBC and SBS episodes as I can find online. (too bad a lot of them are restricted outside of their countries) and I can’t get enough. There isn’t enough television worth watching these days but this show certainly is.
I got my boyfriend and my aunt hooked on the show and it made us start looking up our family history. I love this show and I’m looking forward to season three.
I didn’t get to watch season 1. When I started watching season 2 I was hooked…I even had to go watch the ones i had missed on line. I am glad they have a season 3!
Can you do a show or contest for us regular people to learn our family history.
Love, love, love this show. I wait all week for Friday nights. I am very much into genealogy and have a worldwide subscription to Ancestry.com. I have over 25000 people in my tree. Please keep this show coming and keep up the great work!
I didn’t even know about this show until after season 2 finished! I watched season 2 online and I am ordering the first season. This is really cool to watch and see how the stars find out about their heritage. I see there is 4 seasons in Great Britian. I hope season 3 goes well so they will do another. Thank you Lisa for bringing a different and very cool show to America.
