MTV is making major cuts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, new network boss Chris McCarthy plans on cancelling several of the channel’s ongoing TV series.
The shows in question are Prison High, Air Sex, Acting Out, Down to Earth, Almost Impossible Game Show, and Stupid Man Smart Phone—all of which are unscripted and have earned fairly low ratings.
Speaking to THR, McCarthy explained the cancellations are part of his plan to revive the sagging network:
The opportunity for MTV is to embody everything it is to be young — optimistic, hopeful, idealistic, diverse, messy and fun. Music is a huge part of that, and we will be doing even more music programming. But it’s not the only part of it. If we zero in solely on music, we’re limiting our brand.”
In addition to the six unscripted series on the chopping block, scripted comedies Loosely Exactly Nicole and Mary + Jane are on the bubble. So far, MTV has not officially announced the cancellation of any of these programs.
What do you think? Do you watch MTV? Do you think the network should change its programming?
Then they should change your name from Music Television to something else, since music is limiting their brand.
