TV show description:
This workplace sitcom takes place on and off the set of a hit Spanish-language soap opera. On-screen melodrama is often eclipsed by what happens off-screen, between this dysfunctional work “family.”
Despite not speaking the language, Ana Sofia Calderon (Eva Longoria) is the star of the Spanish-language drama, Las Leyes de Pasión (The Laws of Passion). In this youth-oriented business, Ana worries her days as star are numbered.
Ana’s work life is complicated when ex-husband, Xavier Castillo (Jencarlos Canela), is cast as her character’s love interest. Ana is convinced that Xavi cheated on her — with Shakira.
Costumer Mimi Moncada (Diana Maria Riva), is Ana’s best friend. A single mom, Mimi always feels like she has too many balls in the air.
Gael Garnica (Jose Moreno Brooks) is an insecure gay actor playing Ana’s macho cop husband. A friend to Ana and Mimi, Gael thinks of his abs as job security. He rips off his shirt, whenever network suits appear on set.
Aging diva Isabela Santamaria (Alex Meneses), watched her career decline as Ana’s rose. Always typecast as the villain, Rodrigo Suarez (Amaury Nolasco) longs to stretch into new roles.
Innocent and perhaps ditzy, Roxie Rios (Jadyn Douglas) plays the soap’s sexy ingenue. Isaac Aguerro (Izzy Diaz), is a seldom-sober writer, frequently besieged by actors desperate for airtime.
Gustavo (Juan Carlos Cantu), plays the soap patriarch and father of Ana’s character. In his dotage, Gustavo is prone to nodding off, even on set.
Series Finale:
Episode #11 — The Stalker
Xavi asks Ana for a cup of coffee to talk about their relationship. When he doesn’t show, Ana fears the worst. The cast tries to impress Isaac, who is working on a script for next year’s telenovela.
First aired: February 22, 2016.
What do you think? Do you like Telenovela TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
What a shame to cancel such a cute show ! We thought you would have made it an hour ! Oh well , back to silly nonsense tv
Oh, we love Telenovela!! And are so sad it’s been cancelled! Is there any chance it could be picked up by another network? It was really engaging, well-written, and funny!
I loved it. It’s a shame the networks are looking for only milky white and cookie cutter shows.
BRING IT BACK or put it on another network!!
Telenovela was a very funny original show with a great cast. Nbc needs to bring it back. Hopefully another network will pick it up.
Loved it, Netflix… Hulu?????
My wife liked this show and she will miss it. It had the same quirkiness of Desperate Housewives.
OK I get it, this show was cancelled because it didn’t capture a large enough percentage of the viewing audience and the networks have to make money to stay in business, understood. What I think is a bit harsh, to cancel a show after just 12 weeks and not look beyond and understand the promise it holds. Things move a bit too quickly in today’s world in general as was the case here in the decision to cancel this how. Obviously I’m not alone in thinking this show was a breath of fresh air, campy fun and a welcome, POSITIVE… Read more »
