HBO has renewed their new TV show The Brink for a second season.
A dark comedy series, The Brink focuses on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men — womanizing US Secretary of State Walter Larson (Tim Robbins), lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Talbot (Jack Black), and Zeke “Z-Pak” Tilson (Pablo Schreiber), a drug-dealing ace Navy fighter pilot. Others in the cast include Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Geoff Pierson, Esai Morales, Carla Gugino, and Eric Ladin.
The series debuted on June 21st and five episodes of the season’s 10 episodes have aired so far. They’ve averaged a 0.51 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.22 million viewers. The season finale is currently scheduled for Auguest 23rd.
The renewal comes two weeks after the passing of executive producer Jerry Weintraub at the age of 77. The cast’s options were set to expire tomorrow and had already been extended a week.
What do you think? Do you like The Brink TV show? Do you think HBO should have renewed the low-rated series or cancelled it instead?
Now HBO is cancelling this gem. All the garbage on television and they cancel this bright funny intelligent show! One of the reasons I didn’t cancel my cable was because of HBO shows and then they go and cancel it.
You’re kidding me?!!! Unbelievable!! BIG MISTAKE!!
Thanks for nothing HBO!
From a very Disgruntled UK Resident!!

This is sheer brilliance and I am so glad it will be returning next year. The cast are amazing and play their parts brilliantly, (I was worried initially that it would simply be a vehicle for jack Black being Jack Black but luckily it was far far far more than that). As a viewer from the UK it often reminded me of an old series, later a film, called Whoops Apocalypse, but with a freshness and a sense of the “now” that managed to wipe out those associations. The season finale was the best season finale I’ve watched in a… Read more »
My words exactly!!!
This is a very funny show with true world overtones in the political arena. I am so glad there will be. Season 2. I love Jack Black, Tom Robbins and Pable Schreiber is great in this. He and his side kick are the perfect navy pilots and I have known many!
Thanks HBO for doing season 2!!!!!
And VEEP is hilarious as well for the same reasons. Great acting and a bit of true life politics as it really is behind the scenes.
I love this show. It leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat after 30 minutes I can’t wait for next week’s show.
Great show, very clever, suspect it will be a slow burner so will need a few series to really gain a lot of followers.
As a British viewer I was intrigued to know what Americans thought of the show, but seeing as it’s getting a second season someone obviously likes it over there!!
My husband and I both love it, you obviously have to have a different sense of humour than some to watch it but we think it’s hilarious and really enjoy it. So many times we’ve gotten into watching a series only to find that a second series isn’t to be renewed.
Really pleased there’s going to be a 2nd series.
Keep up the great work!!!
I think the show makes Americans look very bad. Almost everyone is either sex-crazed, drug addicted, or manipulative, conniving, and unethical. Jack Black is good in his role, and the filming is interesting, but I think it is offensive and most Americans would be put-off. This is “Shameless” government edition. I think if the writing were tweeked a bit to put in more concerned and higher quality people I would enjoy it. P.S. I can’t stand the show VEEP for similar reasons and never watch it, although I am a Julia Louis Dreyfus fan.
The Brink is great. It has a quirky Dr.Strangelove vibe. I am very glad it is renewed.
I do wish they would take Complications off the air. Gretchen became unbearable to watch so I stopped and cringe when fast forwarding and it appears.
