At the TCA winter press tour, it was announced that The Affair TV show has been renewed for a fourth season on Showtime. The third season’s finale airs this Sunday.
Showtime has not said that season four will be the end for The Affair however, co-creator Sarah Treem recently said that there’s a four year plan for the series.
Here’s the press announcement:
THE AFFAIR will be back for a fourth season! The third season finale will air on Sunday, January 29th at 10pm ET/PT.
THE AFFAIR stars Golden Globenominee Dominic West, Golden Globe winner Ruth Wilson, Emmy Award nominee Maura Tierney and Screen Actors Guild nominee Joshua Jackson.
THE AFFAIR explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together, as told through multiple perspectives. Season three picked up three years after Noah’s (West) shocking admission of guilt at the murder trial of Scott Lockhart. Noah attempts to restart his life, but the damage wrought by his past decisions has made him a ghost of his former self. Alison (Wilson) has been raising daughter Joanie alongside Cole (Jackson) and Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno) in Montauk, but Alison’s past continues to rear its ugly head as Cole and Luisa attempt to build their own future. For Helen (Tierney), life appears to continue on, but just below the surface of a successful business and a bustling home lies uncertainty with her boyfriend Vik (Omar Metwally), instability amongst her children, and an unshakeable feeling of guilt.
In season three, BAFTA winner Irene Jacob joined the cast providing the series’ fifth perspective, playing Juliette Le Gall, a new love interest of Noah’s, running from her own secrets, who helps him process a trauma from his past and understand himself a little better. Season three guest stars include Jennifer Esposito and Brendan Fraser.
What do you think? Do you like The Affair TV show on Showtime? Are you glad that it’s been renewed or do you think it should have been cancelled instead? Should season four be the end?
1/6/18 update: Season four of The Affair will debut on June 17, 2018. Details here.
Miriam Keep it Coming for many years please!
The Affair is in my top favorites. I am eager for season four. Keep checking to see when that will be.
No, no, NO! Do not end the Affair! It is one of the most engrossing, “thinking person’s” shows on TV! It’s one of the few shows my significant testosterone driven other and I can watch and truly enjoy – TOGETHER!!!!
Bring it back, please !!
While I agree it does get confusing sometimes and the back and forth can be annoying I still really love the show. I am so glad they are renewing and am looking forward as to how things really workout with both couples.
The Affair an okay series — I don’t think the back and forth viewpoints accomplish much… it belabors the whole perspective reality and can get confusing at times. Also, the beginning music is horrible. I mute it overtime the show comes on.
Best show ever. Please do not cancel it.
The show is wonderful everyone I know has been watching and all say the same .
It would be a shame if the show is canceled I would like to see season 4-5-6- and more very true story..love love
No do not cancel season 4 It’s a great show and everyone is enjoying the show, can’t wait For the show to come
back on. I would love to see season 5 and 6and even more. Keep it going…….
NO SEASON 4 SHOULD NOT BE THE END, I would watch a season 5 if you decide to do it….. I READ ALOT OF REVIEWS AND ALOT OF VIEWERS FEEL THE SAME……..YES TO SEASONS 4,5 AND 6…….THE SHOW IS A TREMENDOUS HIT……PEOPLE LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!
Season 3 was very weak. To me the Season 1 was the best, and Season 2 had some interesting changes. I was bored with Season 3… Season 4 needs to be The End.
I loved Seasons 1 & 2, the storylines as well as the format. Extremely disappointed in Season 3, the storyline, the additional characters and the new format. Very repetitive and too much time in between viewing what’s going on with the other “side”. I felt like it went downhill so much, I wondered if there was a different writer. I will tune in for Season 4, in hopes that it turns back around!
I liked seasons 1 and 2 better than 3. I liked it better when they split the show between the 4 characters. Also, they left so much unanswered regarding Cole’s family. I liked having his mother on the show, etc. I liked this season, but they need to go back to the old format. I wasn’t thrilled with the French character either. All in all this is a great show. It is different and interesting. I will watch it as long as they film it.
Love the show but was SO disappointed in Season 3 finale. Why add a storyline for a 5th character when there is so much else that could be done with the current ones? I’m sorry, but I could’ve done without the whole Paris/Juliette thing. Waste of time.
I personally love the series in spite of a few slow spots. The story is the best I have ever seen with regard to how dramatic and the fall out an affair can cause. It brings to light things people never think of. I think the movie is very dramatic and intense in so many parts. I thoroughly enjoy it and hope for a season five and six. It gets so emotional sometimes I actually feel like I know the characters personally. It’s quite sad in a lot of parts and certainly could be a true story.
It is an excellent series — well written, well acted, with interesting takes on human emotions and struggles.
