TV show description:
A TV show adaptation of Lucy Maud Mongomery’s Anne of Green Gables novels, Anne with an E is an 1890s Prince Edward Island period drama, centering on 13-year old orphan, Anne Shirley (McNulty).
For years, the bright and creative Anne suffered abuse and neglect in various orphanages and foster homes. Now, thanks to a lucky mistake, she arrives at the home of Marilla (James) and Matthew Cuthbert (Thomson). The aging siblings had meant to adopt a boy to help them on their farm.
Although she is cautious, serious, and unsentimental, Marilla finds herself amused by Anne, who brings out the woman’s dry wit. Something about the resilient child warms her heart and awakens Marilla’s maternal instincts.
Her brother Matthew is also not immune to the spirited Anne, either. While this extremely shy man has been beaten down by life, just being around the lively orphan revitalizes him and he soon develops a father’s love for her.
Diana Barry (Bela) is practical and pragmatic. Still, there’s something about her that draws the fanciful Anne to her. Kindred spirits, the girls develop a deep and abiding bosom friendship which sees them through thick and thin.
Breezy and self-assured, Gilbert Blythe (Zumann) takes a shine to the one and only Anne, but goes about showing it in a teasing way, which infuriates the fiery redhead. At school, the two develop a rivalry that will spur them both on to further success.
Gossipy Mrs. Rachel Lynde (Koslo) is the Cuthberts’ intimidating neighbor and Marilla’s friend, who revels in giving advice. Anne and the blunt Rachel don’t start off on the right foot. At first, Anne resents the woman for being nosy and bossy. They have quite a gap to bridge.
This newest Anne of Green Gables retelling spotlights timely issues including identity, feminism, bullying, and prejudice. Throughout the story, Anne has an impact on the lives of just about everyone in Avonlea.
Series Finale:
Episode #27 — The Better Feeling of My Heart
Anne steps into the next chapter of her life.
First aired: Janaury 3, 2020.
What do you think? Do you like the Anne with an E TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
I loved Anne of Green Gables as a child and this series is just as good as I remember! I cannot wait for the next season!!
I haven’t read or seen Anne of green gables before and I don’t normally reply to requests for comments but I have been watching this series and totally enjoying it. Relationships are depicted engagingly, characters are complex and situations although simple evolve with surprising nuances. Treatments of girls by other girls make me think I’m seeing this for the first time. The period enhances the feeling of newness and coming of age of the story and with a character actress so fitting for the role that I have can feel myself walking through snow with her each day she goes… Read more »
What a great show I can’t wait for next season to start loved it
I love this show! I have read all of L. M. Montgomery’s books on the Anne series. They are so beautiful and they describe life in such a realistic way but through the eyes of a positive person who sees life through all hardship with strength and courage. ‘Anne with an E’ is a faithful portrayal of I what believe L. M. Montgomery would of liked her Anne to be characterized on television. The series is enchanting and brought me to tears many times, which before only reading her books could do. Let there be more series made please!

I am amazed that such an actress (actor) can deliver so many words, so many, so lovely, everything amazing about this show and where the stories take you… gotta do season 2!
I am so sorry but PLEASE RELEASE ANOTHER SEASON. THANK YOU
I loved this show! It touched my heart and I cannot weight for the next season.
I truly love this show also the original movie. Never read the books but I am sure they are just as good as the movies. The only thing, is Anne With An E on TV. If so what channel is it on so I can watch it if I get that channel. Thank you for making this a series that shows how Anne may have lived on Prince Edward Island. I would like to visit Prince Edward Island some day.
It’s on Netflix
Would like to see a second season. Cannot leave us hanging. Need to see more to find out if they save the farm, keep the bad guys away, see what happens to Matthew and what happens to Anne as she grows up. PLEASE!!!!!!!
Both my husband and I LOVE this show. We are both in our 60’s and never read the book. He writes literary fiction and I am a psychotherapist.
Very WELL doe and we hope there is at least another season with the SAME cast and quality of
The show.
We just finished the 1st season and heartily anticipate the release of a 2 no season.
Does this mean the release of season to will come or not? I would love if the series keeps going. I love this show!
I meant two* not to silly miss spell.
YES! As the world’s most passionate Anne-fan, I say “Yes!” The series feels authentic, the acting is very good to superb (Anne and Marilla), the changes to the book feel believable and enrich it. YES!
Lovely picturesque of Anne with an E 2017 film and would love to see next season
I definitely think a second season is absolutely needed. The acting is incredible. The way the story unfolds transcends you to be like a fly on the wall. You are part of every scene. We absolutely need more from Anne and Diana and the Cuthburts. Do not leave us hanging on this one.
Yes
