It’s the end of the world as we know it. Sky has cancelled the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV series after its first season. The British-American sitcom airs on NBC, stateside.
Season one ends after the meteor hits earth. The survivors, played by stars including Mathew Baynton, Pauline Quirke, Diana Rigg, and Joel Fry, are ensconced in an underground bunker. Baynton was ready to tell the post-apocalyptic story, but Sky is letting the first and only season stand on its own.
Radio Times reports that Sky has decided against a second season of the show, for the narrative’s sake, which is rather refreshing. Here are the details:
“A story with the end of the world at its heart was always going to be hard to bring back and has reached its natural conclusion,” the broadcaster told RadioTimes.com.
“The news that a comet was on a unavoidable collision course towards earth triggered a joyous, fun, 34 day dramatic countdown to the end of the world in You, Me and the Apocalypse. Our cast of characters did things they never believed they would do and gave us a show that was loved by critics and the audience alike.
“We thank the entire creative team, cast and everyone working at Working Title Television and NBCUniversal International Studios”.
What do you think? Do you wish the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV show had been renewed for a second season, or do you think Sky did the right thing? Let us know. (I feel fine.)
I want to know who was in the crate!
Great show, but to end it like this would suck. You need to have another season … It makes no sense not to let viewers see this to the end!
I NEVER comment on these things…..but, this was a fun, refreshing show. Writers this creative could and should absolutely keep the story going at the same interesting pace. Please bring it back….Netflix or Amazon Only could possibly pick it up and continue producing?? Even if they picked the story up 20 years later…Who doesn’t want to see how the classic joke/story “It’s the end of the world and …..,……,……are the only humans left….”? Please finish the story for us.
It’s also possible that “Son” with second fellow would survive when (in case if) the door of the bunker had already been fixed by the truck. (Though it seems nearly unreal, the whole AMAZING You, Me and the Apocalypse is alike supernatural.) Then they gonna kill some people (two of the grandma’s and, perhaps, herself and the Arial orwhat. Also the “racist” woman with the general would die and, maybe, the arab — or whoever he might be — and one more.) An’ they ALL gonna live fairly and bla-bla-bla. And, I think, they probabolta give us a new episode… Read more »
Wtf
I’m disappointed. Bring it back!
Wow. Very disappointing news. I was really looking forward to a second season.
So it’s cancelled after reveiling that the “Son” of God is locked outside of the bunker???!!!! That makes no sense. The “Son” of God being killed ???!!! He can part waters but can’t live through the meteor??? I’m confused by the whole ending, the fact that the story has ended is wrong. Just saying. You’ve told millions of people that the “Son” of God dies during apocalypse!!! ??? You need to rethink this and correct your mistake…
True… Although it gives us an free ending: it’s also possible that “Son” with second outer fellow would survive when the door in the bunker had already been fixed by the truck. (Though it seems nearly superb, the whole AMAZING You, Me and the Apocalypse is alike supernatural.)
And, I think, they probabolta give us a new episode in a year, a month and a single week. ) That was really LOVEly.
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE ON THIS SITE TELL US WHERE THERE IS A PETITION TO SIGN TO GET A SECOND SEASON
Please, please bring a 2nd season. I just loved this series. and there are soo many things that were left unfinished!! You can’t stop now!!
This was the first refreshing, new and brilliantly executed and cast show in a very very long time. And you’re taking it away???? We at least need to know if it’s the evil twin! Come on sky and NBC. … why would you let something so beautiful die? Not all of us are real housewives, the voice and Kardashian devotees you know
No I think there should be a second season I mean come on it was amazing and it left so many openers! Like who’s in the box..the nun having a baby..and Jamie! Please bring back another season.
NBC is nuts if they think that ending the series after season 1 is a good idea. Who is in the crate? Does Scotty die? Does Jamie get resurrected? Does the grandmother receive her blood transfusions? Do we ever find out why so many sets of twins run in their family? What happens to Celine’s baby? Gee Whiz! Big mistake, big mistake!
Only the good (shows) die young-This one, Dead Like Me, Joan of Arcadia, The IT Crowd, yet the evil (and lame) never seem to go away…sad, sad, sad
Don’t forget Pushing Daisies!!
Boo! This was a great, smart show that spent the whole season setting up the elements for a second season. It was obvious that the showrunners intended a second season — two many loose ends were left. To say that the show is ending for narrative reasons is just disingenuous.
Fantastic, really! First Hannibal, now You me and the Apocalypse… Tell me, NBC, when you see that one of your show is amazing, that has a good plot and a wonderful cast, that has the potential to continue in an ever better season, do you enjoy cancel it?
Just to know, because watching You, me and the Apocalypse here in Italy wasn’t that easy, but it was worth the effort to get the new episodes, now I’ll just stop watching whatever you produce if that’s the trend..,
