The Away mission has been grounded. Netflix has cancelled the astronaut drama series so, there won’t be a second season. The show stars Hilary Swank, Josh Charles, Talitha Bateman, Vivan Wu, Mark Ivanir, Ato Essandoh, and Ray Panthaki.
Created by Andrew Hinderaker, Away is set in the near future and revolves around a manned spacecraft being sent to Mars. For the high-stakes mission, a crew of elite astronauts is assembled from around the globe, coming from the United States, Russia, China, India, and Great Britain. If the mission goes as planned, they’ll be away from their home and loved ones for three years. During this time, their relationships both on Earth and in space will be tested, as they struggle to stay alive and stay on track in pursuit of humanity’s most important goal.
The first season of 10 episodes was released on September 4th. The series was reportedly one of Netflix’s most-watched series for much of September. Apparently, that viewership wasn’t good enough, when weighed against production costs, for the streamer to issue a renewal.

netflix is facing finantial hard ship and is losing ground in streamimg the only way is low cost shows, is not why i suscribed in first place
great show outstanding acting and special effects.
It was a good show, why not give it a chance! But yet how many seasons or Shameless have you ran, about a drunk, drug abuse ect!
Bring back Away! It was different! We all enjoyed it.

The show was great to watch. I am so disappointed that it was canceled. I wish it would be renewed even if it had to start later.
I am very disappointed it’s been cancelled, I just finished watching all 10 episodes and was looking forward to seeing it again next season, to watch Away was one of the reasons I signed up to Netflix, the space program is one of my big interest. Hope you will reconsider the cancellation.
My wife and I watch The Universe and related programs. We enjoyed immensely this one and would definitely have watched season two. We are very disappointed that it will be cancelled. Now we will have to search for another space oriented, non-horror, uplifting show, which are in short supply
This show is one of the most truthful “space adventure” that has ever been filmed. It is very humane, and close to reality. Far from being a SciFi, I really expected a second Season, because I think it is not correct to leave the audience in a “stand by” position. Probably a second Season would have been nice to have, until the Astronauts come back to Earth. In keeping with our continued “dumbing-down” of our society, and I mean no disrespect really, but smart, intelligent TV shows with superb talent and superior writing are losing a place to air in our broadcast landscape. The West Wing was the smartest show of its’ time and I doubt if it would last two seasons on broadcast networks today, maybe one on Netflix if given a chance at all. The Newsroom by the same creator Aaron Sorkin, also an excellent cast lasted a mere 2 seasons while CBS is somewhere around 20 seasons of Big Brother…a dreg of TV programming… Read more »
My wife and are both disappointed to hear this show is not returning. We were anxious to see how the astronauts were going to fare on Mars. Their issues made the flight quite a challenge, sometimes too challenging to take. But now we’ll never know what it’s in store for our heroes. I was really wanting to see how Josh Charles’ character was going to come up with to help the team keep the explorers safe and keep going. Come on Netflix, keep them alive.
