What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the National Geographic cable channel, Barkskins is based on the novel of the same name by Annie Proulx. The show stars David Thewlis, Marcia Gay Harden, Aneurin Barnard, James Bloor, Christian Cooke, David Wilmot, Thomas M. Wright, Tallulah Haddon, Kaniehtiio (Tiio) Horn, Lily Sullivan, and Zahn McClarnon. The series examines the mysterious massacre of settlers in the vast and unforgiving wilds of 1690s New France. This event threatens to throw the region into all-out war. Likely suspects abound – the English, the Hudson’s Bay Company and a band of Kanien’kehá:ka (Iroquois) possibly in league with the English looking to drive the French from the territory. But, who or what brought these settlers to such a tragic end?

Will National Geographic cancel or renew Barkskins for season two? The ratings have been okay but, the channel doesn’t air many original scripted series so it’s difficult to know what they consider to be a success. The series’ creator wants to make a second season so, we’ll have to wait and see if Nat Geo agrees. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. Barkskins is one hell of a terrific and exhilarating series combining all the best of history and nature programs combined with the mystery, power, and style of Twin Peaks. Love it! By far the best thing on TV since a long, long time. Please bring it back for another couple of seasons, it’s pure TV adrenaline and should run its complete course. It’s got me hooked. Please bring it back forthwith!

I really hope this will be renewed for a second season. I love historical fiction and this is one of the best series adaptations I’ve seen. Actors were chosen well and they are very upfront with the hardships and the violence these early settlers endured without being gory just for the sake of gory. COME ON NATIONAL G take a chance.
We love watching but the broadcasting of 2 and 4 went out. Only black screen was presented. Also on replay both screens stayed back. Can we have some suggesting how to watch them?
My Fiance and I just loved this show! It was marvelously done. My fiance is French canadian and it felt as if we were watching a bit of the history of his ancestors unfold. The acting was superb, the characters where unique each one with their own storyline that just drew you in. We couldn’t wait for monday nights! I truly hope there will be a second and even 3rd and 4th season.

My husband and I just finished watching Barkskins after having recorded the series. It was wonderfully done! The acting was top notch and the set was done with great detail. We loved it! We immediately checked when Season 2 would be on and were really disappointed to read that Nat Geo may not continue with this show. What a huge mistake if they don’t. We will think before we get drawn into another series on this channel if this is how easy the execs give up on something that loyal watchers have invested their time into it.
