Barney is headed to the big screen. Yes, get ready to get that song stuck in your head again. Barney & Friends aired from 1992 and 2009 on PBS, and the new film will see how Barney does in this new time. Will his messages of loving everyone, friendship and acceptance still resonate with this new generation?
Mattel is working with Daniel Kaluuya, and his production company 59%, to bring Barney to life once again on the big screen. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kaluuya said the following about the project:
“Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood. We’re excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of ‘I love you, you love me’ can stand the test of time.”
Robbie Brenner, from Mattel Films, said the new feature will “speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today’s kids.”
What do you think? Were you a fan of Barney & Friends? Will you check out the new Barney movie?
My favorite Barney Home Video is “Barney’s Super Singing Circus.”
Love this show
Love this show, fun for kids…
I grown up with Barney and Friends as a child of the 80s and 90’s but when they made the 24 hours PBS kids network they got rid of the show. So this will be a nice chance for the kids of today to see some fun learning.
