In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

Please, don´t do that. Brothers and sisters make part of my life. I love so much the show. I wait every week to watch it. Please. dont end the show.
How can yo leave the tired and wearisome “Desperate Housewives’ on and cancel “Brothers and Sisters ?” it just shows the low quality of the major networks. No wonder everyone is resorting to PBS or paid programming.
Again, another great show cancelled. If ABC knew they were going to cancel the show, why can’t they at least wrap up the story line and not leave you hanging ’til next season. Since B&S was canceled, give us, their audience, a 2 hr. movie to wrap up story lines. ABC needs to quit canceling good shows to be replaced by”reality tv” shows. There is an audience out here who does not like at this reality crap!
Brothers and Sisters is one of my favorite shows – it is well written and well acted. There are few shows of this caliber left on network TV. The topnotch cast is a delight to watch every week and it is truly sad to take it off the air – couldn’t it be moved to a different time slot? PLEASE reconsider at least giving it another season to wrap up the story lines.
Hi! I am writing from Ireland and have to say very dissapointed that Brothers And Sisters is being cancelled. It is one of the best shows of all time….What is happening to all the good tv shows, do the tv networks not realise how much this show is loved all over the world……
You can’t do this! This is one of the best shows on TV. Really likable people living real lives. Love this family! In this mess of a world, I really look forward to watching this show on Sunday nights. Please save it!
I am very disappointed that Brothers & Sisters has been cancelled, especially because there are very few shows on TV that are well written and well acted. I am a bit tired of reality TV and can only hope that this decision is changed or that another network picks up this great show!
I can’t believe that Brothers & Sisters is being canceled. This is one of my favorite shows. I have to record it to see it since it is on late and I get up early, but I watch it just the same. I love the people and will truly miss what is going to happen next. I want to see Nora & Brody together, I want to see Luc & Sarah together forever and what about Kitty’s new baby. You are crazy for canceling Brothers and Sisters. I have watched it for the past 5 seasons and continue to love it. Please reconsider bringing it back as I would love to watch a 6th season. The stars in it are wonderful. Don’t take off all of the good shows. These reality shows are getting absolutely rediculous. I look forward to Sunday nights to watch it.

ABC this is the worst mistake you guys have made. This was actually quality TV and you take it away and I am sure it has nothing really to do with ratings becasue everyone loves this show….. Truly Sad!!!

I can’t believe you’re cancelling “Brothers and Sisters’. That show is great and was getting better with the season finale. It’s a shame that the network prefers reality shows over real quality programming. If I like a show then it usually gets cut for a reality show which sucks. Don’t take this show off the air..
It was so hard to keep up with this show this year! There was no consistency scheduling from week to week to be able to follow the story line. I love this show, and when I didn’t watch the new episodes it was because I just never knew when abc would decide to air one! If a network wants to know if viewers are interested in a show, perhaps they should put a new episode on more than once ever 5 or 6 weeks. abc killed this show, it didn’t die on its own.
