In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

What a shock, another intelligently written, well acted show, for the over twenty something, cancelled. ABC, you suck!
I am really sad about the cancellation. It always seems that a show that is really well acted, funny, interesting, sometimes exasperating with it’s plot twists is cancelled. My mom and I looked forward to sundays to watch this great show. It made us laugh and cry, sometimes it definitely mad me angry, as if i was actually a part of the show, lol! It will defnitely be missed. It definitely makes you wonder what is really going on in Hollywood. Okay here we go again!! I get interested in a show and then it is gone. I am not watching any new shows I have had it. I DVR 36 shows and watch them all year round. They are my movies but I guess I will wait until they all get canceled then I can just give up shows all together!! Get rid of the trash shows!!
Sunday night will never be the same! The actors on Brothers & Sisters were outstanding, but the writing was not. The story line changed when Rebecca then Holly & David left, but I loved it nonetheless. ABC did the same thing with “American Dream”… just ended it. I am so disappointed Brothers & Sisters ended. I feel like I lost a good friend.
Noooooo! One of favorite shows. Love Sally Field and all the cast. At least bring it back to give us closure!!
Loved looking forward to ‘Brothers & Sisters’ and now Sundays will never be the same. Enough reality shows! This had great characters with very different personalities and a lot of warmth and humanism. Please reconsider, ABC!
So sad! I loved this show. Writing went from terrific to terrible, but the good ones were so good. Bring it back!
Why did they think they could maintain when these shows take such big breaks. I looked forward to Sunday nits. I’m tired of the reality shows. I live reality. Why do I want to want “women” live their unreal lives. Give me a family that is not so far out there
I’m from in Argentina. Me and my mother love the show and still haven’t had the chance to watch the fifth season, so we hope they, at least, give a proper ending for the stories. If not, we will be really dissapointed not because of the show, that was excellent, but because of the execs that make the numbers prevale over the public that, even if it’s a little for them, it’s a lot of people waiting week after week to see our favourite performers on tv. What a shame that the series was canceled. The cast was outstanding and the scripts were rather good. There will be an empty space in my Sunday nights!

This is one of my favorite shows . They should have kept Rob Lowe.
Say it isn’t so!!! Give me my weekly dose of Sally. Please bring it back, if for nothing else but to wrap up the story lines.
Again a good show is cancelled. There are too many reality shows and talk shows on. I live in reality every day and really enjoy watching shows with good acting that I can get lost in. I think you are making a mistake as well.
