In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

My favorite program!! I am so disappointed. ABC is not thinking clearly.
It’s ridiculous that the networks keep cancelling decent family shows and sitcoms. Soon all that’s going to be left is dumb, completely unrealistic “reality” shows. Or worse shows like Desperate Housewives about over privelegded spoiled women with no sense of morals.
After this, I’m really stoping with ABC. I swear, I’ll never see an ABC show again. This is so disrespectful with us, the audience!
I can not believe this show is canceled! I guess now i can go to bed at 10 but really brother & sisters was a good show. I was to the point i almost liked it better than dhw! Couldntthey try a different time or day? So disapointed 🙁
Sally Field is an amazing actress, but recent episodes were lacking depth in plot and had become more about silly phone chats with one sib interrupting the other as they played ‘telephone.’ Clever in the beginning, but that got old very quickly. am so sad.. I just loved watching that show. IF abc puts in another stupid reality show, my tv is shut off that channel and to my dvr for the old classics that I tape.. Hey big sponsors who need people like the age group that watched that show ( that most have money to spend on your products, NOW wont be watching much at all.) Who loses, YOU.
Please all write to those main channels and say NO more reality shows that cost them nothing to produce and give out to the audience NOTHING of quality
Very sad. I didn’t realize when I watched the show last Sunday that it would be the series finale. After I saw all the characters so happy at the wedding, I figured out it would be the series finale not the season finale. Good shows always seem to be taken off the air.
This was a true family drama. I’m so sick of mysteries and violence. Oh well, what choices to we have anymore. Good bye Walker familty,I will miss you.

BAD MOVE ABC
I am so sad and shocked to hear about this. Is there a way to get this decision changed. I am from scotland (uk) and this show was my favorite shows on tv i think the way it has been cancelled is so cruel to viewers and the quality of the show they could have had one final season to wrap it up properly.
I feel there are just a handful of top quality shows on TV…Of course, Brothers and Sisters was at the top. Great script filled with great actors. Please don’t give us another reality show or game show or more garbage TV. What are you guys thinking?? I don’t like that this show would be on one week and then off the next. Being inconsistent with when this program was shown may have affected your ratings.
PLEASE….bring back Brothers and Sisters.
This is a huge disappointment. There is no other show like this on TV, good story lines and emotion provoking. I think cancelling this show is a big mistake, the Walkers have so many more stories to be told!

I am so disgusted with abc. This was an amazing show and it had such a great cast. I definitely will no longer be a supported of this network. They apparently have no clue what a good show really is. I always looked forward to my Sunday nights with the Walker family. It’s sad to see them go, but they had a fanominal run. Hopefully they will reconsider. I doubt it, but hopefully….
I have watched Brothers and Sisters since the season premiere in 06. It has a really good character mix and the writing is great! With so much trash on TV, it was nice to watch a simple family drama. Brothers and Sisters made Sunday nights very special for me for the last 5 years. Shows like this just simply do not last anymore. Everything is either a crime show or a reality show. Nice job ABC…….What reality show will take the place of B&S?????
Like you, I watched from the beginning, and you have remained a far more loyal fan than me. With the quality of the plots getting weaker each week, like one who is loyal to their family, I held onto until the bitter end. I loved my Sunday night line up of DH and Brothers & Sisters. I think Sally Field played her part beautifully and I loved the fact that the family drama was portrayed with such raw emotion…no sugar coating the big issues. The fights, the laughter, the teasing, the love…all a part of our everyday lives. This show will be missed:(
