Season four of When Calls the Heart airs its finale tonight — Sunday, April 23rd. But should there be a fifth season? What do you think? Should Hallmark Channel cancel or renew the TV series?
The historical drama follows Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher whose life is turned upside down when she moves to a small, coal mining town. The cast also includes Daniel Lissing, Lori Loughlin, Chelah Horsdal, Mitchell Kummen, Gracyn Shinyei, and Martin Cummins.
When Calls the Heart is a solid performer for Hallmark Channel. Ratings for season four are up from season three, with an average rating of 0.28 in the 18-49 demo and 2.41 million viewers so far. For comparison, season three averaged a .24 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.06 million viewers.
It seems like a fifth season renewal should be a slam dunk but there’s been no announcement yet. Once again, the “Hearties” are having to be patient.

I believe that Hallmark and WCTH producers really used (raped?) the fans of WCTH. They did not have the courage to admit that they wrote Daniel out of the series (to be replaced by aging wunderkind Greene) Hallmark knew that if the fans had knowledge of their “********” Daniel, the ratings would have fallen below the third sub basement. So, the fans, who have waited four seasons for “Jack and Elizabeth” to finally marry, were instead, subjected to Cody’s appendix, birthday party, and Abigail adopting Cody. Is this information correct, that Hallmark wrote Dan Lissing out of the series? I have not seen or read anything to this effect. I do hope this is not the case. He is my favorite of all the characters in this series.

Yes it should be renewed, excellence show, I will be very disappointed in Hallmark if the leave us hanging and not renew.
Yes the show was renewed. However, the total absence of Daniel Lissing in the last four episodes, no mention of Daniel in the credits, no invitation of Daniel to appear on Home and Family, no inclusion of Daniel in announcing season 5 leaves a sour taste. I wish Hallmark had the integrity, which Daniel has, to inform fans what happened to Daniel. Daniel had a lot of class to keep his story silent even in the Bird sponsored event Reunion 2 in December.
