Last season, CBS tried to establish new shows but almost all of them were cancelled due to low ratings. No new dramas survived and only two sitcoms did. Which shows will be cancelled or renewed this time? We’ll have wait and see.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Battle Creek, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Briefcase, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, Extant, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, The McCarthys, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Scorpion, Stalker, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
The first season of CSI Cyber was great and I hope CBS renews the series it’s great, this show is so true that’s what makes it so real so hurry up and renew it the suspence is nerve racking while waiting for the next season
I love all Ncis, NCIS Los Angeles, NCIS New Orleans, and Criminal Minds, CSI, Person of Interest, Hawaii Five O, Blue Blood, I hope CBS renews all off these shows I look forward to watch them every week.
We so look forward to our favorite TV Show, Blue Bloods ! It is so well acted and all of the characters are entertaining. We love the family at home parts of each show.
Also like Hawaii 5O .
My faves too
CBS better renew CSI and Criminal Minds they both are great shows and both are watched by my kids who are 18, 20, besides myself
I really feel if you would put the shows like Two Broke girls and Mike and Molly, all shows like this including Reality shows on from 9:00 pm and 10;00 pm and put on all the really good shows starting at 7;00 pm they would do so much better, So many I really enjoy I have to watch the next day and I’m sure many feel the same, I hope by having to do this I still count for them, the ratings, It kills me you cancel the best shows and keep on something that is ” brainless”, And the over… Read more »
Keep CSI, Battle Creek, and Criminal Minds! The only reason to watch CBS!
Let’s not forget Stalker, NCIS, Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Person of Interest – once they bring Shaw back and get rid of the Samaratin thing way too long on that and it’s annoying. Put something on Thursdays. I watch channel 4 for The Black List. We all have our own opinions on TV programs, however, Mike & Molly, Two Broke Girls, etc,. along with the Reality Shows are just DUMB and definitely Brainless. They have their moments of HaHa, just not enough to keep most interested. Therefore, I’m not saying get rid of them, just don’t cancel the more… Read more »
Hi I love all three of my shows NCIS, and NCIS los Angeles and NCIS new Orleans and there is other shows i watch that are not showing on the line so i hope that do not get cancellation so please do not cancellation them i wat them every week.
I thought episode 23 was good. Different. But the whole cast should be featured in each or most of the episodes. Missed Scott in most of 5/23. episode again.
NCIS, NCIS LOS ANGELES, Criminal Minds are the best shows on TV you better renue them for another season and more
I would hate to see Hawaii Five-O be cancelled because it is one of my favorite shows. Every time I see the scenery of Hawaii it makes me want to move there. Please don’t cancel this and I also love NCIS: Los Angeles and many others on this network. Don’t cancel this either. CBS is one of the best network of shows I love to watch so thank you CBS for providing great entertainment.
Hawaii 5-0 dying a slow death. Last night’s episode consisted mostly of Kono flopping around a surf board for half the show. H50 went from 007 type action in Season One to hokey confusing plots about Steve’s mom and dad to Carol Burnett singing hits from the 1940s to hang on to older viewers. Jack Lord must be spinning in his grave. At least he can rest easy now knowing this modern desecration is coming to an end.
I disagree. Thought the episode was fantastic. All the actors are excellent, and I very much hope the show is renewed.
Also love NCIS, Scorpion, Blue Bloods, and Elementary. Loved the Mentalist as well, though Red John got tiresome
I like the actors too, just think they are being misused. The whole bro-mance thing between and Steve and Danny just doesn’t work. Can’t imagine Jack Lord and James MacArthur arguing about who should be driving the car or giving relationship advice to each other. Don’t know the other shows you mentioned except for the Mentalist which was a great series.
Seems the viewers agree with me as the show has dropped from 12th to 24th in the CBS rankings in just one year. Don’t think CBS will keep it, but the series may survive one more year.
Well, you are correct in the “18-49” demographic. But in overall viewership it is CBS’s 12th most popular show this year, and it only lost 1.5% viewership from the previous season.
And remember, it is buried on Friday nights–not exactly a prime time spot for TV.
You make some excellent points. I guess it may come down to how important that “18-49” segment is for CBS. Since most people in that age group are “out and about” on Fridays, total viewership may still win the day for the Big 5-0. Since they now have cater to the “over 50” crowd to survive, it explains why the show insists on featuring such 1970s vintage guest stars as Lee Merriwether, Carol Burnett, Ed Asner, Melanie Griffith, Darryl Hannah, Cloris Leachman and Al Harrington just to name a few.
Please don’t cancelled Criminal Minds, my family and I just love that show. We just can’t do without Shemar Moore love love love him.
I hope they keep NCIS Los Angeles. One of my favorites.
Very frustrated by NCIS LA not being renewed. Move it back to 9:00pm timeslot. Never should have been moved to 10am Monday nights. That’s how you kill a show. So frustrated
Where did you get your info, I cant find any confirmation of cancellation of NCIS LA. Its has better ratings that some other shows that have been renewed even after the move. Its far better than the newer 2 NCIS shows with better character development.
I can believe the numbers for CSI since they moved it to Sunday night. It either was delayed because of overrun football gams or they didn’t air it at all. CSI is just about the only reason I watch CBS so if it goes I go. I have watched every episode since day 1, yes it needs tweaking but still a good show IMO. They signed its death certificate with a move to Sunday.
