The struggle (and story) of the Bowman family ends tonight. The Colony TV show has been cancelled after three seasons but, would you have watched more episodes and a fourth season? Should it have been dropped?
A USA Network sci-fi drama, Colony stars Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Tory Kittles, Peter Jacobson, and Alex Neustaedter. The story unfolds in the near-future, in a world where citizens are under military occupation by the Colony Transitional Authority, as part of a large extraterrestrial invasion. Former FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) and wife Katie (Callies) were raising their daughter and two sons in Los Angeles, but were separated from the younger boy during the invasion and did everything they could to get him back. The third season kicked off six months after the season two finale, with Will and Katie rebuilding their family in the world beyond the walls. They begin a journey during which they uncover the truth behind the occupation. Once again, this family finds themselves having to choose sides.
The show debuted in January 2016 and got off to a positive start with a 0.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.36 million viewers. The series lost some steam over the course of the season. The first year averaged a 0.38 rating with 1.13 million and it was renewed for a second season.
Season two of Colony launched in January 2017 and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.26 demo rating with 814,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that was down by 31% in the demo and 28% in viewership. Still, Colony was renewed for a third year even before the season two finale aired.
USA didn’t start running season three until May 2018. Thus far, the third season has averaged a 0.17 demo rating with 672,000 viewers. Compared to last year, that’s down by 36% and 18%, respectively.
Colony is currently one of USA Network’s lower-rated scripted series but, other shows aren’t doing that much better. While it’s not a complete surprise that USA cancelled Colony, they could have easily renewed it to wrap up the story with a final season. Unfortunately, they opted to end the series after three seasons and 36 episodes.
What do you think? Do you think that USA should have cancelled the Colony TV show? Should the series have been renewed for a fourth (and final) season or, is season three a good place to end it?
I initially liked the show but they lost me half way through season 3. I wasn’t surprised to hear it was canceled. As I quit watching halfway through, then no, I would not have watched a season 3. I don’t have as much patience for shows as I used to. I also quit halfway through The 100 this last season too.
Since The Colony came on air I have not missed an episode. The story line is awesome and exciting. Being a summer series it is hard to get a hardcore audiance especially if you did not see a season. Kind of unfair to say ratings being down is a true result of it being bad. The actors and story need more time to prove themselves so please renew for season 4 and more. How does the series truely end?
I enjoyed watching Colony. I thought Season 3 was not as good as the previous seasons, but was still well worth watching. I don’t understand how we the viewers keep getting sucked into being a loyal viewer and then wham another good program is gone.
Again, wrong people decide to stop a good show.
Counting viewers is still a mistake. Those who not watching it, decide it. That‘s so stupid.
And by the way, who is counting the Numbers of viewers and reviewers on the media. That is so 1985.
So please go on with this good Show. For the viewers of good shows!
I loved the show. Seems like any really well done scifi gets cancelled too soon.
I HAVE LOST YET ANOTHER SHOW FROM FORMER LOST STARS
HURLEY FROM ALCATRAZ,JULIET FROM REVOLUTION AND NOW
SAWYER FROM COLONY. I GUESS IT IS TIME TO LET (LOST) GO AWAY.
The show ended too abruptly and network execs have again treated their viewers (who are customers) with disdain.
They needed to have something to wrap it up.
Instead we have a gripping season end with an opportunity to ramp up the action for a final season.
Colony should most definitely be continued. It is a riveting tour-de-force of creative storytelling. Not every moment of of it blows you away, instead it delivers a cumulative knock-out punch by it’s merciless rendering of social-political reality, slightly altered enough to make its case. I mean it is surgical in its precise depiction of humans under the strains of catastrophe. And it decisions about what constitutes catastrophe are timely and, again, unforgiving of our our worst weaknesses, yet powerful in the depiction true human courage. I cannot endorse it less than as one of the best produced, acted, and meaningful… Read more »

I would like to see Colony continue. You left us hanging and it would be nice to see where it ends. Ratings might be low because of all the good programs on. You sometimes have to record. When that happens I try to rotate all my favorites. Thank you
After watching for 3 years, I would love to have some kind of closure. It is not fair to loyal watchers to be left hanging. Makes me wonder why I even watch cable TV-time to switch to pay for view.
I will watch anything with Josh Hollowell. But I really want to see how Colony would end

Really like Colony. I wish some other network would pick up Season 4.
