Community has gone from NBC to Yahoo after the network cancelled it after season five. Season six aired on Yahoo Screen, and now there is talk from Yahoo that season seven of the series will not happen.
In fact, Yahoo is blaming Community and two other series, Sin City Saints and Other Space, for the failure of their venture into online original programming.
That comes from comments made by Ken Goldman, Yahoo CFO, during a conference call held on Tuesday, according to The Wrap. That outlet shared Goldman’s comments.
“We thought long and hard about it. What we concluded is certain of our original video content, we couldn’t see a way to make money over time. I’m thinking of Community, I’m thinking of Sin City Saints and so forth. So there, where we had spent money and had some assets on our balance sheet, we elected to write those off. That actually helps us going forward and we won’t have the expense to impact us going forward. In thinking through that, we thought of not only what is the cost, but what is the cost to market and create the streams you need to make them successful. So we’re not saying we’re not going to do these at all in the future, but what we’re saying is in three cases, at least, it didn’t work we had hoped it would work, and we decided to move on.”
Saying that they have decided to move on is not putting a good spin on the possibility of a seventh season for Community. While they haven’t said directly that their shows like Community, Sin City Saints, and Other Space have been cancelled, it’s clear that they don’t plan to make any more episodes either.
Fans will see the characters of Community again though. A movie is still in the works, according to Variety. Insiders close to that project told Variety that the film can happen with or without Yahoo.

i just just think community desertves a good ending and i want to see in the movie. i think that last episode of season 6 isn’t worth enough
I just finished watching all seasons of community.Loved it. It’s a great show with a lot of potential and great humor. I would be disappointed if “the group” didn’t get back together and tie up loose ends. I like how the show has lessons and the characters grow as the show continues. I feel Community deserves a good ending. ” Haammmm girl!”
In the movie thay may consider about getting Jeff and Britta together. It would be awesome
This went from the best show ever to the weirdest **** I’ve ever seen, seriously. Community’s tv series was epically failing. But, I still couldn’t stop watching it cuz I love the characters, and the fact that Abed continually straight up acknowledged the fact that it was failing, like when he said stuff like “what ever happened to that girl I was dating?” in the first episode of season 6 (I believe it was, or maybe the second) and the fact that they still didn’t bring Rachel back (or at least explain some break up or something) made it the… Read more »
Has anyone from yahoo tried to watch yahoo screen? I thought season 6 of Community was great and very well written. I even suffered through how choppy yahoo screen was and all the ads, even though they were choppy also. If there is someone to blame here I think it’s yahoo and they will continue to fail if they keep the mindset of spending as little as possible and expecting amazing results. If I were an advertiser for this service I would pull my sponsorship.
unless i missed something, making a 7th season was NEVER the plan. its very existence would have ruined the show’s mantra of 6 seasons and a movie
We can handle it, I think, but give us the MOVIE!
I think Yahoo is narrow-mindedly focusing on their profits this quarter instead of the long term. So the Execs didn’t make their bonuses, but BLAMING Community and the like is childish and shows that, as a company, they don’t care about their consumers or future consumers. When I found out that they were going to be the new spot for Community, I began singing the praises of Yahoo to anyone who would listen, and even made a new Yahoo mail account. This will stop. Good luck keeping your US market, Yahoo. And good-bye.
