Starz is saying goodbye to Counterpart. Deadline reports the network has cancelled the TV show after two seasons.
The sci-fi drama centers on a low-level bureaucrat, Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons), who toils away in relative obscurity at a United Nations spy outfit based in Berlin, Germany. The cast also includes Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd, Nicholas Pinnock, Nazanin Boniadi, and Sara Serraiocco.
A Look at the Ratings:
It’s not entirely surprising that Starz has cancelled Counterpart. The series has taken a major dip in the ratings during it second season. So far, the show is earning an average rating of .04 in the 18-49 demo and only 225,00 viewers. That’s a nearly 50% drop in the ratings since season one.
However, while Counterpart won’t continue on Starz, there is still some hope for fans. According to Deadline, the show’s producer is shopping it around to other networks.
What do you think? Have you seen Counterpart? Do you want a third season?
I love the series!!! Please renew!!
YES! Please renew for season 3! Hopefully some other network will see the value of picking up this expertly and I tense drama. I love it.
Love this show. The actors are great at making you believe their others are so different. This is star quality acting. Seems like we can’t have good performance tv that is rewarded for just that. Please renew
Yes, really enjoyed the 2 seasons. Left enough unanswered questions to fill another season. My husband and I both waited for the next episode each Sunday, Hoping another station will pick it up.
I will close the doors between starz and my TV. I know the ratings took a serious dive after season one but I blame that on the network cutting back on advertising ($) and publicity (free, but costs the PR dept. in billing hours). They just thought they could coast along on the popularity of the first season but only the diehard fans remember to check on the new season’s air date. I agree with what’s been written here. Intelligent writing, brilliant cast, amazing ditrectors and editing and the original art direction tied it all together. I wonder if American… Read more »
I am shocked, heartbroken and very saddened! In my opinion this is the best original series ever created. It is sci-fi yes, but it always makes you think what if it really happened. Great story, great actors and well done plotting. BRING IT BACK!!!!!
My feelings exactly!!!
Please find a new network! I thought Counterpart was a great series. So sorry to see it go…Startz is not the only network out there. Even though I enjoy that station.
We love Counterpart! Looked so forward to it every week. Please find someone to bring it back for a third season.
Counterpart is everything you look for in a television show; great acting, amazing storylines, etc. Come on, Yanek dies from the virus as they pan out from a play date with one of Mira’s kids in front of a huge housing complex. We need to know what happens next! Shame on STARZ for killing the show off. I can only hope that the show is picked up elsewhere.
why does money always have to win……..why can’t we have ONE good sci-fi drama……there are more people than 18 to 49………..I get so tired of really good shows being cancelled for that reason……….the hell with you guys, we want the money………………………………….
Fantastic intelligent show. Well written. Great cast. I am extremely disappointed STARZ has cancelled a third season. Hope another network picks it up. I only subscribed to STARZ to watch this program.
I agree with everyone’s comments, my husband and I couldn’t wait till Sunday’s to watch the show. We have sling tv and we noticed that it would be able for streaming before the airtime. The ratings need to be taken into account all the different ways shows are viewed these days, many times it is not at the day and time it’s aired. I’m going to hold on to hope that another streaming service picks the show up, it’s way too good to be cancelled.
Great show, I hope it finds a new home.
Counterpart has been my favorite show on TV for the last 2 years! It is a very intelligent show dealing with interesting and complicated concepts and story lines. I enjoyed season 2 just as much if not more than season 1. The season finale was absolutely outstanding. I am sorry to hear it got cancelled by Stars but maybe another network will pick it up. I hope so. There is a lot more story to be told!
I hope Starz reconsiders. This is a great show with substantial viewership – not everyone watches real time. If Starz let’s this gem of a show slip through their bean counting fingers, shame , shame!
