Deception just wrapped its first and only season, but what would’ve happened next? Recently, EP Chris Fedak told EW his plans for the cancelled ABC TV show.
The crime drama centers on Cameron Black (Jack Cutmore-Scott), an illusionist who uses his tradecraft to help the Feds apprehend some of the most elusive criminals in the world. Ilfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, and Vinnie Jones also star.
As reported earlier, ABC cancelled Deception after one season. However, EP Chris Fedak told EW there were plans for a second season:
About a month ago, we put together a pitch for season 2, which was epic and a really fun flip on the show that would have had Jonathan out in the world with the Mystery Woman, having adventures there. For me, I don’t think that Cameron would have been trapped in jail for too long. I think that he would have been there for probably 36 hours, enough time for him to seriously get into trouble. He would save himself by trying to do some magic tricks and hiding. With the DNA test or fingerprints, they would realize what had happened. He would be out of jail, but that’s only the beginning of it. The idea that you’ve been betrayed by your brother, the guy you’ve been trying to save, that’s such a delicious [story line] — Cameron going after his brother and trying to figure out what exactly happened. I think that would have been a huge twist on our show.”
And what about Mystery Woman? Would season two have revealed more about her?:
No, here’s the thing about the Mystery Woman: She’s an Ashley. No, Tiffany. I think she’s definitely a Tiffany. [Laughs] For me, one of the things about season 2 was about Johnathan coming to know who she really is, and it’s seeing her as a tragic character, in a way. What is her real name becomes a thing where it’s like, she has lots of names. She doesn’t reveal to anyone what her true name is, and that would have been something that would play out over the course of the season until she finally does, and that would be another emotional connection between the two of them. It’s the secret she keeps close, and we would of course give her a number of different names, and that was a part of the fun of it. I just like calling her Mystery Woman. The moment we were like, “So we have this Mystery Woman, and we’ll give her a name at some point.” I’m like, “Maybe we don’t.””
What do you think? Did you watch Deception? Would you have watched season two?

I loved the show. So different from the plain stuff on TV. I was also bummed about the ending. I was hoping Jonathan would be freed and they could both work with the FBI as consultants.
The most enjoyable show of the year! Please return it!
The show Deception was GREAT ! They should have moved to a different day or time slot and it probably would have had higher ratings. The viewer reviews showed it was liked by IMDB.
Please ABC, give another chance, smartly written and fun.
This was a very enjoyable show!! Too bad it was cancelled. It was one of the good ones.
Deception was the great new show of the year. Not the same old doctor, lawyer show. Please, please, please bring it back. It was interesting and exciting. What is wrong with the yv stations?
I love Decetion, it was a one of a kind show, please, please, please bring it back. There are so many useless shows in tv, this was so interesting and NEW.
I am so disappointed in the canceling of deception that was/is the best show out there the story line, plot twists the camaraderie of the cast the idea of the show itself was unique and the fact that it was canceled shows the network lacks the knowledge of a great show I haven’t seen a show this good in a long time shame on you nbc you canceled a great show it will be a long time before I watch something on your network
actually it’s abc.
This is the most disappointing cancelation in the history of television. Deception was the best show on television, certainly since White Collar, and possibly ever. The way this Season ended demanded a Season 2 and I don’t know how I am going to move on without it. I am just in shock.
I had been so into the show and now they had to **** it all up. They had the best story ever and they decided to cancel it because it was voted 1 .2. I would tell NBC to look at Facebook ratings and IMDB. Facebook is 4.9 and that is a vote of millions of people. All of the people that voted bad go **** yourself, **** U.
I haven’t been interested in a show like this since Prison Break. The story line in Deception was unique. The twists were something I never saw coming. The betrayal was a serious plot twist and I immediately checked to see if it was coming back just to be let down yet again. You people don’t know a good show when you got one. I’m just gonna stop watching your channel all together since I never know if shows are going to continue. Add that to your ratings.
In today’s world magic is needed alongside criminal apprehension. Please bring back a little more everyday, ordinary “objects”. For our “decepetors” I mean magicians to be heroes. Mixed with, greed, lust and a ride for your life. Look again. Deception is worth another season and more.
Why do the networks always cancel the shows we want to stay. Yes I would watch more of this show. Grey’s is still running, but you cancel this. I like both but only got a little of this and a Whole Lot of the other. Makes no sense to me.
“Deception” – ABC, & “The Crossing” – CBS were the two new shows which got me back (a bit) to watching Broadcast Networks.
There are so few shows, which are well written, have a great cast, and make the viewer use their brain these days.
The bright spot is, with Roseanne Barr’s disgusting Tweet perhaps ABC Execs. will reconsider, and give “Deception” another season.
Hulu or Netflix, please pick up, and continue “The Crossing”, best new Series this year.
Did not miss a show. Very disappointed it was canceled.
Watched every episode!!! Can’t believe it is cancelled!
