Deception just wrapped its first and only season, but what would’ve happened next? Recently, EP Chris Fedak told EW his plans for the cancelled ABC TV show.
The crime drama centers on Cameron Black (Jack Cutmore-Scott), an illusionist who uses his tradecraft to help the Feds apprehend some of the most elusive criminals in the world. Ilfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, and Vinnie Jones also star.
As reported earlier, ABC cancelled Deception after one season. However, EP Chris Fedak told EW there were plans for a second season:
About a month ago, we put together a pitch for season 2, which was epic and a really fun flip on the show that would have had Jonathan out in the world with the Mystery Woman, having adventures there. For me, I don’t think that Cameron would have been trapped in jail for too long. I think that he would have been there for probably 36 hours, enough time for him to seriously get into trouble. He would save himself by trying to do some magic tricks and hiding. With the DNA test or fingerprints, they would realize what had happened. He would be out of jail, but that’s only the beginning of it. The idea that you’ve been betrayed by your brother, the guy you’ve been trying to save, that’s such a delicious [story line] — Cameron going after his brother and trying to figure out what exactly happened. I think that would have been a huge twist on our show.”
And what about Mystery Woman? Would season two have revealed more about her?:
No, here’s the thing about the Mystery Woman: She’s an Ashley. No, Tiffany. I think she’s definitely a Tiffany. [Laughs] For me, one of the things about season 2 was about Johnathan coming to know who she really is, and it’s seeing her as a tragic character, in a way. What is her real name becomes a thing where it’s like, she has lots of names. She doesn’t reveal to anyone what her true name is, and that would have been something that would play out over the course of the season until she finally does, and that would be another emotional connection between the two of them. It’s the secret she keeps close, and we would of course give her a number of different names, and that was a part of the fun of it. I just like calling her Mystery Woman. The moment we were like, “So we have this Mystery Woman, and we’ll give her a name at some point.” I’m like, “Maybe we don’t.””
What do you think? Did you watch Deception? Would you have watched season two?
Hell yea I’d watch season 2! BEST new show & brilliant network cancelled it
How could you do this !? What a great show my whole family loved it . It reminded us of Castle! We loved all the deceptions! Great imagination ! How could you leave us hanging like this . You leave garbage on your network like the Bachelor and the Bachelorette . Everyone loves a little magic ! Give it another season .
I would miss this show! Wish some other channel picks them up, as it was indeed an entertaining show… may later but ratings would have increased. Sigh!
I really enjoyed season 1 and was looking forward to the development of characters in season 2. I guess I will never know if there was a family treasure to find! I imagine Kay and Cameron would have been together at some point! And MW was interesting with the back story of her and Jonathan. I enjoyed the characters and concept of the show. It was fun to watch.
Since this show was cancelled I have decided to cancel my cable.
Sham on you ABC ! Loved Deception,it’s so much better than some of the garbage on your network.
I am so sorry they cancelled deception. It was a great show, especially with the flair of magic in crime solving. ABC you need to bring it back
I am so disappointed about the cancellation of “Deception” . I watched it with my daughter & we both loved it so much. Very frustrated with ABC. Shame on them!
I totally agree with Sue and would like to say Chris Fedak is a genius! Very frustrated with ABC!!!!!!!!!!!! I was looking forward to season 2!!!!!!!!
How do we, the fans go about getting this amazing show renewed. This is one of the few exciting shows on television today.
I would recommend flooding the office of ABC’s parent company Buena vista with playing cards, but, they would just sell them to people at Disney parks for $10 a pack.
I loved this show!! It was the only show I had in a list to be recorded that I really got excited about watching. There was mystery, crime, magic, and romance. The plot twists were fantastic and always kept me on my toes. It was such a well written, well executed show!! I’m really sad and disappointed to see it come to an end, especially the way season 1 ended. I was really looking forward to more seasons.
I loved this show, my grandchildren and I watched it, my granddaughter is 10, my grandson is 15 and I’m 67, so the show appealed to a wide age range. It was smart, funny and still had an edge to it. ABC never gave it a chance, I mean it started in Marxh(?) and then they cancelled it, I think they never planned on more. It shows a complete lack of concern for their viewers and I see no reason to watch a new series, might as well wait to see if it’s going to have a second season. I… Read more »
“Deception” was one of my favorite shows, and I’ll be delighted if it returns for season 2.
I definitely would have watched a season 2. I am so disappointed that it was cancelled. I’m so tired of all the reality shows, talent and music shows etc. This show was unique. It had interesting stories and a great cast. I hope that some other network will pick it up.
Another favorite television show cancelled! Guess I won’t need my TV any more. I can get the news over the Internet! And “reality” shows aren’t all that realistic!!
