President Kirkman is returning for a third term. After lengthy negotiations, Netflix has made a deal to revive the Designated Survivor TV show for a third season of 10 episodes. Season three will debut in 2019.
ABC cancelled the low-rated political drama series after two seasons in May. It was rumored that the series was being revived last month because of production listings.
Netflix to bring “Designated Survivor” to viewers around the world as a global original series
Designated Survivor will return for a third season as a global Netflix original.
The political drama starring Kiefer Sutherland will be helmed by showrunner Neal Baer from global studio Entertainment One (eOne).

Season 3 Synopsis: President Kirkman (Sutherland) will face a political reality… campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.” Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.
Season 3 will go into production later this year and launch in 2019.
Seasons 1 and 2 come exclusively to Netflix in the U.S. and Canada this Fall.
Showrunner/EP: Neal Baer
Creator/EP: David Guggenheim
EPs: Mark Gordon, Kiefer Sutherland, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood, Peter Noah
Executive Producer Mark Gordon Quote: “The continuation of the show via Netflix is a win-win for all involved. The story of President Kirkman and those around him has not been fully told and we look forward to working with our new partner in continuing the show for a global audience.”
Kiefer Sutherland Quote: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play President Kirkman for season 3 of ‘Designated Survivor’ with Netflix, eOne and Neal Baer. I believe this format will allow us to continue to delve deeply into storylines and issues concerning the American electorate that were not previously possible.”
Bela Bajaria Quote: “Timely and gripping, Designated Survivor has quickened the pulses of our Netflix members outside the US and Canada in its first two seasons. The international audience for the show drove our interest to bring the show to the world as a Netflix original for its third season and we are excited to bring the first 2 seasons to our US and Canadian members as well.”

Netflix rocks!!!
Thank you Netflix. A grateful nation wants to see an intelligent, respectful, compassionate & country before party or individual democracy in a White House. I just wish this was the real one & the frightful mess we have was a horror show. Hope the writer’s keep up the great scripts and the same cast are able to be back on board. Can’t wait.
Yes!!! I am so happy. We need more then 10 episodes please!
Good news, can’t wait
Yes I will watching
it’s great that this great political show is returning, Netflix is the perfect avenue for this type of show, they don’t have to be restraint by the network censors
Well, I can’t afford Netflix so there goes another good show for me. To all you who can watch it – enjoy it for me. 🙂
Patty, you should contact your cable provider and see if they provide Netflix and how much extra it would cost, Comcast does, i don’t know about any other provider though
Another option might be to check it out at your local library after Netflix inevitably releases the show on DVD. Would have to wait a bit longer, of course, but Netflix (and most other networks) tend to release on dvd sooner or later.
Can’t wait. It’s a great show and Kiefer Sutherland was brilliant, in the way he grew into the role of President. By the end of series two he had really grown into the role of President, from the early days when the Presidency was forced upon him. Roll on 2019.
Glad to see the new season coming to Netflix. Will now suscribe to Netflix Ztreaming and also be able to watch the new season of House of Cards.
