TV show description:
Loosely based on the sci-fi detective novel series by Douglas Adams, this TV show revolves around an eccentric time-traveling “holistic detective” and his reluctant sidekick. A collection of wild and dangerous characters’ further infiltrate and complicate their world.
Funny, eloquent, and a bit rude, Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) has strange psychic abilities that enable him to sense tangential connections. He’s turned these abilities into his new profession as a holistic detective who sees that everything is connected. However, his abilities have condemned him to a lonely life, devoid of human connection.
Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) is a washed up rocker who feels like his life is a dead end. When he stumbles into a bizarre murder scene and encounters Dirk, everything changes. Todd reluctantly joins Dirk and quickly discovers he’s better at detecting (and pretty much everything else) than Dirk. Despite being a compassionate, smarter-than-average man with biting wit, Todd often finds himself at a moral crossroads.
Spunky, smart and impulsive, Amanda Brotzman (Hannah Marks) always wanted to be in a band like her brother. Sidelined by Pararibulitis — a hereditary disease that turns everything around her into a potentially agonizing physical hazard — she’s remained isolated, leaning on her brother for support.
A bad-ass security officer for a millionaire, Farah Black (Jade Eshete) has brooding, nervous energy. She subconsciously talks to herself and if provoked, unleashes a biting deadpan sarcasm. After her boss is killed and his daughter kidnapped, Farah is determined to solve the case alongside Dirk and Todd without the help of police.
Bartine “Bart” Curlish (Fiona Dourif) is a terrifying, homicidal, and nearly invincible “holistic assassin.” Like Dirk, she is a causality psychic. Bart doesn’t determine who she kills. It’s all instinctual. Drawn towards people who kill or endanger others, she feels a second nature urge to eliminate them.
Ken (Mpho Koaho) is a nerdy, friendly-faced tech who’s trapped in increasingly difficult and bloody circumstances. His side job as a hacker lands him face-to-face with some odious characters.
An enigmatic loser with an impressive series of horrible secrets, Gordon Rimmer (Aaron Douglas) is a high ranking member of a cult called Men of the Machine. He loves giving orders and whenever possible, reminding his fellow brothers of his seniority within the cult.
The four members of The Rowdy 3 are aloof Martin (Michael Eklund), manic Vogel (Osric Chau), always stoic Gripps (Viv Leacock), and the deranged Cross (Zak Santiago). They are strange vampires who feed on emotion and the electrical energy of the human mind.
Estevez (Neil Brown Jr.) and Zimmerfield (Richard Schiff) are missing person’s detectives. They increasingly operate off book as they follow the trail of a complex and bizarre case.
Colonel Scott Riggins (Miguel Sandoval) is the beleaguered CIA head of a defunct secret bureau, Black Wing, that investigates the paranormal. A true believer, He hopes rebuild the agency but gets stuck with Sergeant Hugo Friedkin (Dustin Milligan), an unpredictable, wildly ambitious and dangerous moron.
Episode #18 — Nice Jacket

What do you think? Do you like the Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency TV show on BBC America? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
I love this show! The second season was much better than the first. I thought the show was safe because of this. I’m very disappointed. The actors fit their characters really well. Canceling the show is a real shame.
I’m shocked at seeing this series cancelled. The first season was sometimes hard to watch, but like a train wreck you just can’t stop. The end of season put everything to right or at least handed out karma. The second season was another great story, but this time Dirk is unsure of himself while Todd is sure it will all turn out. And, of course, it does, though mistakes and destruction by the bad guys can’t be avoided. I was really looking forward to the third season, and how the characters would evolve.
I loved the simplicity and funny, crazy and zany anecdotes of the characters. No matter how silly or imaginative the roles of these characters are, these actors make me laugh. I love the story line and creativity. I love that they can make me laugh. Isn’t that the reason for creating a show like this.
I think dirk gently’s holistic detective agency should had realiced a 3rd or a 4rd season, i realy liked this serie
I didn’t think this really funny, intelligent, modern and seriously entertaining series should’ve been cancelled so quickly, it should’ve been given another season or two, not many shows catch my attention like this one. There are and have been quite a lot of good shows that were and are being cancelled because of some inadequate individuals who should have their jobs cancelled, for making up the minds of all who watch the shows, instead of giving them a chance to finish properly.
I found Dirk Gently to be quite fun to watch. I love the first episode, the second was good but felt like a setup for episode 3 which is not available to me right now. I think anyone who loved the movie Snatch will love the craziness involved in the series. I would love to see it continue.
