One of the unfortunate bits of news that came out of this week’s upfronts is that FlashForward has been cancelled after just one season. The TV show’s last episode will air as scheduled next week but, can viewers expect some closure?
The story of FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for a little more than two minutes and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
In an interview with EOnline, actress Sonya Walger recently shared that, while there is some closure in the FlashForward series finale, an awful lot is left open-ended. On the positive side, the show does come full-circle from the pilot.
Walger said, “There’s another flash-forward brewing, but it remains to be seen if it happens or not… The finale is just brilliantly written. It’s so satisfying to watch how everybody ends up — or doesn’t — in the positions that they saw themselves in the pilot. Watching these chess pieces move into position so that everyone is where they saw themselves being is ingenious. And by the end of the penultimate episode, they’ve pushed everyone as far away from their final positions as they could possibly be. It’s a brilliant device.”
Walger’s own character, Olivia, will really shift her focus in the final two episodes. She says, “Olivia’s prime concern becomes Charlie, her little girl, and making sure that she’s OK. That becomes her guiding star, not if Mark (Joseph Fiennes) is all right or am I going to hook up with Lloyd (Jack Davenport). In pursuing that goal, all of these other things fall into place.”
What do you think? Do you think that you’ll still enjoy the ending of the series, even though all of the questions haven’t been answered?

I knew it would end with another flashfoward. I really enjoyed the show and wish it hadn’t been canclled. If I had to chose between Flashforward and V. I would have rather seem V cancelled. That show really creeps me out. The networks seem to focus on reality show. I don’t watch any of those.I liike a good mystery.
just dont cancel the show
I DVR everything, so I never watch commercials anymore. Is this the reason why all shows have such a short life now? ABC is the quickest, of all of the networks, to cancel shows. ABC has had some FABULOUS shows that have been cancelled almost as quickly as they’ve started. Does anyone remember: Hot Properties (had the gorgeous actresses from Modern Family) or Big Shots (with Dylan McDermitt and the girl that played Nicole on Flash Forward) or what about Dirty Sexy Money, Cashmere Maffia, The Nine (was that the name, with Tim Daly and Kim Ravier), The Forgotten, and… Read more »
My husband and I cannot believe that “Flashforward” is cancelled. We watch the show faithfully no matter what. At times we have stayed up extremely late to watch it. There are certain shows that just bring a family together & this was one of those shows. I knew that every Thursday night my husband & I would put the kids to bed & then get cozy on the couch & watch “Flashforward.” I wish there was something that I could do to bring the show back but I am only one person among millions. Please bring the show back!!!
ABC….. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!! Just when I found a show with so sincere content, BAM it is cancelled. All you other networks, pick up this great show and give ABC a message…..Flashforward lives on, with out ABC. This show is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!Another move on ABC’s part to show that they don’t really care what we think. By the way ABC, what are you replacing flashforward with? Another dumb*** reality show?
I really hope that for some strange reason this show would get picked up again. The storyline was intriguing and well developed, the actors and characters were just interesting and easy to love!
I even had goosebumps at times when the story would twist and turn…and now we have V…gosh Idiots!
We want our shows back!!!!Grrrrrrrrr…
This is my favorite show! Why in the world would they just cancel a great show before tring another time slot. I mean, come on guys, I know “everyone” loves reality shows, right? NO, not everyone! Why not give this excellently written show survive on another night? I am going to stop watching tv because every time I fall for a show and become hooked, somebody decides it isn’t getting enough ratings and it is cancelled. This show was great, its to bad it is cancelled. sincerely, no longer an ABC fan!
I am upset! It would have been (better) if they just ended it when the wave of the blackout hit the world… that would be, sad but ok, knowing there is no 2nd season… but NO, they show us all of their new Flash Forwards, which span years into the future, and drum up a million more questions that we will never know the answers to!!! Knowing this was the end, they really should have cut that part out of the finale.
Hmm..a show that keeps you in suspense for the full hour. You cant predict anything on what may or may not happen. From all the chatter I see and hear it is worth keeping it for a second season. ABC dont cancel this show! I have lost “24” and found this show to be a great filler for it. I loved every episode of it. Hey suit and jacket guys do something for the fans this time and dont listen to those higher ups telling you to cancel the show.
I just finished watching the final episode of flashforward and if there is no second season all my hopes of tv will be shattered … the show ends with charlie saying mom they found him … after the building where mark is explodes … idk if there isnt a second season then i would have not watched it from episode 1!!!! please MAKE A NEW SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just finished watching the season finale of “FlashForward”…it was unbelievable! But if left so many new questions unanswered! I cannot fathom how in the hell ABC can consider picking up a sucky show like the “Ghost Whisperer” and not renew “Flash Forward!” Flashforward had the makings of being a phenomenon like “Lost”. It had the mystery, the drama, the action. This is the fifth show that I enjoyed that ABC has cancelled that I truly enjoyed. I really don’t think that ABC understands “real” ratings. In today’s world people don’t just sit around the tube, we Tivo, we download… Read more »
here we go again, only “certain” groups count and never mind the rest. Have they even considered that the break they took to regroup caused viewers to forget it was “on?” C’mon give us back our show….it was the only good thing to watch. At least in the last several years in my opinion. “FOR WHAT EVER THATS WORTH TV PEOPLE!!!!!”
I mean… what’s the point? What ever we say – those suits are not going to change their minds… All they care about are numbers, and by that I mean numbers in USA. Why there can’t be a way to measure ratings around the world? But than again, those of us who do not live in USA can’t buy anything advertised – so we do not count.
I have been a dedicated ABC watcher since “Battle of the Network Stars”. I rarely changed the channel from ABC until they started canceling shows I really enjoyed about a year ago. I told everyone I was never going to watch ABC again because they killed the sitcom. When FlashForward came about …I was back! I had to renounce my conviction. The show is phenomenal. Great writing and acting. I am really sad to see it go and am now back to CBS…its the best!
